I'm going to guess you've never done it. If you don't love the game, putting in the work that needs to be put in is a huge deal. I commend him, actually for getting out instead of going through the motions for four more years never helping. Of course, those guys get pushed out but the point remains.
 
I am going to wait until a statement is made from the ISU program. Football at this level takes an everyday 100% commitment that can wear on a person, particularly one who has yet to see live game action. I hope he reconsiders, if in fact, he has decided to walk away and stays for this season and then makes a decision. He has worked awfully hard to get this close to kick-off to truly know if he has lost his passion for the game. The light may go back on once he experiences what he has not felt for two years which is live contact "under the lights". It would be interesting to have access to the Burnham family right now and get the unabridged story.

No, never done it... But have worked a 40 hour week while going to school in something I didn't really care to do. How is this any different. Probably pays three times better

I think his tweet about losing love for the game is all we need.

Because it requires self motivation to do a lot of the things he needs to do. There's a lot these guys do in the summer voluntarily. Effort is somewhat voluntary, especially in the offseason. I'm just saying I don't blame him. This is not to mention you were gaining working experience which he will not be able to get while playing football. Perhaps he's looking down the road at internships and things like that and it isn't worth giving that up for something he doesn't truly love.
 
I just wish he'd play a game or two before deciding that he'd lost his love for the game. I'm sure that after all the training and practice of a redshirt season can be a mental and physical grind, but I'm surprised he wouldn't least want to stick around for a couple more months and see if the payoff of playing on front of 50,000+ fans is worth it.

Not the first time I have heard something like this. Former Alabama running back Glen Coffee was drafted in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Niners and played behind Frank Gore. The next year he retired from football, and the reason was because he claimed that he lost interest in the game of football.

Because he doesn't like practicing? He doesn't like staying in football shape? There's much more to football than just playing on Saturday or Sunday.

I can understand this situation more than Bevins, but to each their own.
 
Football takes quite a toll on the body. I'm thinking it is not the easiest way in the world to finance college. My brothers are at an age where they are replacing the body parts messed up by football. Concussions can be devastating too.
 
Football is a big commitment, I understand Bevins leaving. I wish he would stay but its too big of commitment not to be all in.

This is bad for an already thin DL. We are going to get slaughtered against the run.

I'm right there with them. I'm 34 and have had 3 knee surgeries, 2 elbow surgeries, a hand surgery, and a back surgery. I have been told my knees won't make it to 55.

I loved every second of playing in college but my body feels it every day. Doctors have told me the only way to save my knees is to get to a weight I'm not sure is even possible for me, I'm pretty sure I would look anorexic. I have started strength training again as well to help with the knees. We will see how far it gets me.
 
My dad played some college football back in his day. He always used to say that when you wear the "property of x athletic department", they arent joking. And that was in the 60s.

I assume it is a huge physical and mental grind that a non-athlete would understand. Your heart would have to be in it.
 
There will be an article in Friday's Creston News Advertiser according to their facebook page about Bevins' decision.
