Collin Bevins Leaving Iowa State

What his dad said was "ISU is too big for him" - moving to smaller school doesn't contradict the statement. I understand that a lot of us are disappointed but they had no bad words for the coaching staff.

Maybe the classes and work-outs will be easier, and more of his high school party buddies are there. There is no logical reason for him to abandon an ISU starting position and a possible NFL career to play for University of Hooterville. The kid contributed absolutely nothing to ISU for one year and walks out when he is needed the most. He says he's giving up the sport, and a few days later he signs at a lower level program. My guess is that he was reprimanded or was disgruntled and this is some immature form of payback (aka the Phil Bates maneuver).

I agree with everything except that he didn't contribute anything to ISU for a year. It sounds like the kid worked hard and probably pushed our starters in practice playing on the practice squad.

But yes, I think this is probably a case of a kid wanting to go somewhere where the workouts will be easier, the classes will be easier, the school will be smaller, more of his HS buddies will be there, he can party more and still dominate on the field, etc.

Which is fine, if that's what he wants. Sounds like he doesn't dream of playing in the NFL like most college players do. And if that's the case, we don't really want him here wasting Rhoads' time.

I live in Maryville and work at Northwest. I'll ask someone inside the football program next week. I had a feeling that this was going to happen. Keaton Hulett is going to be a freshman DL down here. They were outstanding together in high school. I actually think this is a good option for the kid. He can get to the NFL here too. My only gripe with the football program is why they don't go FCS. I usually go to all the Northwest games when ISU is away. The amount of talent that comes down here and the quality of play is outstanding. At least the kid is going back to school.

Not likely to end up in the NFL playing at NWMSU. Not impossible, but not at all likely.

There's no way in the world you leave ISU to go to NWMSU if you have dreams of playing in the NFL. You just would be stupid to make that move. He has his reasons, but playing in the NFL better not be one of them, or he's making a horrible decision.

But good luck to him.

It's most likely he has zero interest in playing in the NFL. I'm only saying that with the attention NWMSU get's for their program, one would be nuts to think a 6-5 300lb DL won't get a look. We have guys getting the same opportunities non drafted players at a lot of big schools have.

This. Never thought I would agree with Clonedude (no offense) but he said it perfectly.

These are quite the assumptions - calling out someone's physical and academic work ethic from behind the keyboard takes some special powers...

Maybe... but most people I've known who gave up on school because they were homesick and wanted to be home every weekend regretted it.

ISU is notorious with small-town kids driving home every fricking weekend to their podunk town, because their high school girlfriend is still there, or their boyfriend stuck around the hometown and works at the co-op.

Been going on for decades.

in eastern Iowa, I knew some Cascade guys who attended different small schools and ended up in CR after. They all lived together, socialized together.......and others couldn't break into their incestuous small-town clique. they were weird and protective

There is just a ton of misinformation going all around here.

As a former D2 football player I am amazed at what some on here think it is, it's not just a bunch on no talent hacks lining up to play football.

D2 has a lot of talented players in it and for those thinking the workouts will be so much easier you are mistaken. We have all seen Yancy's treadmill workout which is cool but trust me when I say there are top tier strength and conditioning programs at D2, NWMSU is one that has a top tier program.

D2 is loaded with guys that were borderline D1 scholarship material and chose to take scholarships at a lower tier instead of a preferred walk on. I am an example of that, I had scholarship offers from ISU and Minnesota before I got seriously hurt my senior year. I wasn't cleared by signing day and both those schools pulled the offer and gave me preferred walk on. I still had scholarship offers to 1-AA and D2 schools. So I chose to play at a D2 school which fit me the best. There are lots of kids with similar stories at D2 and lots of D1 transfers playing at D2. And trust me when I say football at the D2 level is a physical and mental grind just like D1. D2 players put in just as many hours with workouts, practice, training table, study table, PT, travel, etc. as D1. The only difference is we don't have huge multi million dollar facilities for it. Instead you are in a building sharing those areas with the basketball team, baseball team, etc. Nice facilities just not football specific. Is there more talent at D1, absolutely, but to act like D2 teams are junior high teams is crazy.

And yes it isn't as likely to get to the NFL but your crazy to think it isn't an option at D2. I had multiple individual workouts with NFL teams (obviously didn't end up on a team) and I played with three guys who made it on NFL teams and against many guys who made it to the NFL. Just because D2 players aren't normally called in the first round doesn't mean they don't end up in the NFL. Northwest Missouri for example had two guys this spring sign free agent contracts. Point is if you're talented enough the NFL will find you, especially at a school like NWMSU.

I guess I don't feel the anger towards him that alot of people on here are. ISU didn't work for him, so what. I loved my time at a school of about 10,000 students and am not sure a school the size of ISU would have worked for me. Some people don't like big schools, no reason to talk about him the way people have been on here.

Is it because ISU is widely known in NFL circles as a professional football player factory? A guy can't spit without hitting an NFL star with ISU roots!

More than some division 2 school in Missouri.

Sorry, I don't read posts from no talent hacks.

As a guy who grew up in a neighboring town, the usage of that term is more apropo than you realize.

<pre-emptive apologies to cascadeclone, it was there, I had to>

It's only fitting for a town affectionately nick-named, "Little Kentucky," in the area.

Sounds like the Cascade guys just didn't like you much. No idea how other towns got dragged into this. I suppose you are from some metropolis of culture like Cedar Rapids. Ah yes, Cascade is so much different than any of these other crap hole towns. Everyplace has problems.
