Contrary to the belief of many on CF, JP has been tracking your suggestions and comments.

You wanted up tempo and years of coaching experience. Someone we could afford.

Mark it down - heard it hear first - David Arseneault

It's possible that Hornacek's agent gave us a clue. He said: we've heard he is a good coach. That leaves out Otz because he's never been a coach. So from the agent's hint it would appear that we've already hired someone who is or was a coach.

There are a ton of names going around, but only a few rock solid candidates by rock solid sources, but it's actually a bit of a cluster at the moment. There are too many hands in the cookie jar and each likes a different type of cookie - actually some like the same taste of cookie, but they know it by a different name. A good example is the news of Jeff turning down an interview with JP AND Leath. Everybody has an agenda.

The more that leaks (much of which is being put out there with a very clear agenda), the more we likely come back to TJ in the end (ironically though those leaking most of the info are ones not wanting TJ). I can tell you there are a lot of egos at play (donors, JP, Leath, etc) and each one has tried to play things to their own advantage - in many ways hurting the overall objective for everybody.

Then you have genuinely interested candidates that are themselves reaching out to Iowa State (i.e. [redacted] himself is desperate to get noticed by JP and has reached out to me as a conduit) and creating their own mini storms by who they contact, what they say, and who else they leak it to in order to build momentum.

There continue to be bigger names mentioned (i.e. Altman) but very, very little actual chatter from the camps of the candidates (i.e. you likely won't hear or see Altman's team leaking anything).

The surprise candidate is Mark Few. When Pollard was visiting TJ last year in Seattle, Few drove over from Spokane and they struck the deal there. The deal is done, but they are waiting until Monday to make it official.

He makes 1.2 million currently...

I'm sure HT was trying to semi-troll us, but it does make me wonder why we haven't heard Few's mentioned more as a candidate (both here and for other openings recently).

But Matt Parriot said he was not interested in the job, how can this be.

He turned down huge jobs in the past, he is only going to get calls from the big boys. He's already turned down p5 money. I don't see any scenario he every leaves Gonzaga. He was a hot commodity a few years back people have given up bc they know its a lost cause. Leon Rice left Gonzaga as an assistant bc he knew he would have a long wait if he was planning to replace Few.

The people that don't care about the style of play going forward don't seem to realize it's not just a novelty...

I know a lot of people who HATE Iowa State, but made it a point to watch ISU games because it was fun. That is the absolute best scenario for a team based in Ames, Iowa.

You have to have exposure like that and have an identity to be a top tier program. We can't just transplant any coach with a solid resume to remain successful. We have to have someone who can continue (and wants to build) with the blueprint Fred laid out.

That is disappointing but not surprising news.

I greatly appreciate you keeping us as informed as you are able.

If not Hornacek or some completely amazing and unexpected candidate, I hope we pick Otz. He's worked under Fred and has seen how to create a winning environment from the best. Just as importantly he has seen what creates a losing environment under McDermott. He's also a great recruiter and having good players is the most important thing.

It's possible that Hornacek's agent gave us a clue. He said: we've heard he is a good coach. That leaves out Otz because he's never been a coach. So from the agent's hint it would appear that we've already hired someone who is or was a coach.
Maybe they hear Otz was a very good coach from Hoiberg

THIS EXACTLY. I am so completely underwhelmed by the list of coaches being tossed about. With Hornacek out, do we really have to go to a half way successful guy like high major Dana Altman, or a relatively unknown low level mid major coach??? For those with short memories, Dana Altman actually has already coached in the Big 12, at KSU, and left because of fair to middlin' success (for Creighton). The guy from Stephen Austin - REALLY????? He's working on his 3rd recruiting class - EVER, ANYWHERE - at the lowest of the lows in Division 1 conferences. The Murray State guy - SAY WHAT??? This is about as LOW MAJOR as it gets. And if anyone says Jerod Haase again, I'm going to vomit all over the place.

This is a big time university with the makings of a big time program. We need to quit approaching this like a bunch of self conscious middle schoolers at the end of the year dance. Good grief! If that list is the best we can do, then I am 100% in on Tim FLoyd. Fantastic coach - probably to the point where he won't use us as a stepping stone. So what if he doesn't play Hoiball. Would a return to a small amount of defensive effort kill us????

If it isn't FLoyd, Xavior's coach Mack, or someone better this will be a complete debacle. CAN ANYONE SAY WAYNE MORGAN????? This is starting to feel exactly like that.

TJ may be the next Izzo - I have no idea. And I would prefer him over any of the mid major wanna be's people are tossing around.

UNBELIEVABLE. Quit excepting second rate status when you don't have to. Of all of the candidates currently considered likely I'd take TJ. But that is just because we still think that no one can love a Cyclone. And, if we decide to hire a mid major type coach, I'd take Ben Jacobson over any of the guys being mentioned. Oh..... I guess we've already done that too. Just like we have already hired Wayne Morgan, and thought we were lucky to do that.
Heck....Brey only make $1.5 million at Notre Dame. Played an exciting brand of basketball this year after playing slow it down muck it up before. Let's grab him
