My cute little mathematical model predicts one of the mystery candidates to be Jamie Dixon.

For those of us who don't have this info but want to speculate:

Mike Krzyzewski, Duke — $9.7 million
Rick Pitino, Louisville — $5.8 million
John Calipari, Kentucky — $5.5 million
Bill Self, Kansas — $5.0 million
Tom Izzo, Michigan State — $3.9 million
Steve Alford, UCLA — $3.5 million
Thad Matta, Ohio State — $3.3 million
Josh Pastner, Memphis — $2.7 million
Sean Miller, Arizona — $2.6 million
John Beilein, Michigan — $2.5 million
Jay Wright, Villanova — $2.5 million
Travis Ford, Oklahoma State — $2.5 million
Jamie Dixon, Pittsburgh — $2.4 million
Bo Ryan, Wisconsin — $2.4 million
Tony Bennett, Virginia — $2.3 million
Lon Kruger, Oklahoma — $2.2 million
Scott Drew, Baylor — $2.1 million
Mark Gottfried, North Carolina State — $2.0 million

From a Business Insider story from last December - source

So, the question is who would be willing to jump to ISU to get their name added to that list? I'd like to think everyone not on that list, but that is obviously not true.

Who is not on that list but thinks that they should be, and could be somewhat disgruntled/stale/misplaced with their current gig?

Leath has numerous connections at NC State. Wouldn't surprise me if he relied on those to connect with Mark Gottfried and got him in for an interview.

It feels weird to be speculating publicly in a thread where numerous posters at least appear to have the correct information but can't share it

I think we can comfortably rule out B12 coaches, and some other obvious ones. That leaves the bolded.

That's easy. Tom Crean.

I completely agree with you except I'd toss on Lon Kruger. Dude's a journeyman and maybe CW put in a good word for him :jimlad:. It's not likely, of course, but it wouldn't shock me.

If ISU can really offer up to $5 million as Jeremy said -- then maybe Tony Bennett could be reeled in too. Then again $5 million could talk to a lot of coaches, and you'd think Tony Bennett would be a hire that could open a lot of checkbooks for ISU donors.

Just speculating here of course.

Alonzo Romar? Maybe his hint when TJ came back was that HE was gonna follow him over in a couple months. Oh boy oh boy new conspiracy!

Now figure out which of the bolded coaches were rumored to have interviewed/shown interest in other jobs this year? Coaches that, for example, were interested in the Florida job but did not get it. If Florida forums are to be believed-- Jamie Dixon.

I'm not considering it a real possibility, but Beilein would be amazing. Plus it would be great to pull another great coach from Michigan.

Yeah I put Tony Bennett on the no list simply because he was incredible last year and I don't think there's any way to get him away from Virginia. I think they have plenty of money to pay him, and the ACC is also an elite conference.

Kruger, I see your point. Fan support is 100x better plus a raise. But they are going to be good next year plus the intraconference thing usually scares people away. I'm sticking with no.

The more I look, the more I think Jay Wright. Ignoring any Fred Hoiberg esque BS about staying somewhere forever, he would make the most sense to fit the mold of what the mods are hinting at.

People would go absolutely nuts, and he hasn't gotten to the Sweet 16 since 2007/2008.

He's now on the outside looking in when it comes to the Power 5 conferences. Villanova can't pay him what we can because of that. Villanova is supposed to be good next year though, but the pressure to be absolutely perfect would be removed for him every year, and it's a new challenge.

Of course, he's probably never leaving Villanova and that's all just a .0001% pipe dream. But for $4 million a year, that's what you can get, I'd imagine.

I think it is more likely to be a guy not on that list, but would move to ISU in June to get on it. Using the $3 and $4 figures mentioned tonight, the guys you bolded are not going to ISU for just a 500k raise imo. Some P5 coach getting under $2 million (and maybe a bit stagnet) would be more likely imo.

Why not get a guy like Rice at BSU for less, and have the best recruits/staff money can buy?

Why do I do this to myself? I finally get myself to accept TJ as the next coach and then I read the last few pages and now my hopes are all up again. Goodness gracious.

I don't think a coach making under $2 million a year would be able to command a raise of 50% or more.

If that is the case, I fully expect JP to go the total opposite direction. But if you can get one of the guys on the list, of course you should be willing to pony up.

You'll also notice that none of the guys I have bolded would be downgrading their job position. At WORST it's a lateral move program wise and an upgrade monetarily.

The same thing goes for roster talent and conference.

The roster we have will help sooth any concerns they have about money IMO.
