Clock "Spring Forward" Tonight

People say this, but when we tried it back in the 1970s we did one winter of 8:15 am sunrises and said, “screw that, we’re going back to changing the clocks”

And yet we already extended DST with almost no issue.

A sample size of one year, 50 years ago, isn't exactly an end-all. And from what I can tell, there was a bit of a false media hysteria around it being 'dangerous', when actual data ended up showing otherwise later, but congress, pressured by that, never gave permanent DST enough time for that data to come out.

Also society is just a bit different now than then.

Eh, extending DST was a stupid idea. We change the clocks too early in the spring now, and the only reason they pushed the fall change into November was so they’d keep that later sunlight for Halloween. Having fewer weeks of “standard” time than DST is silly … why is it “standard” if it’s used less than half the year, lol?

I can deal with whatever we decide as a society … we can go year-round DST, year-round standard time, or keep changing the clocks. People just need to know what those options entail … year-round DST means really, really dark mornings in December, while year-round standard time means really, really early sunrises in the summer and not so much sunlight in the evenings. Neither one is optimal, which is why we change the clocks.

I don’t know if the danger issue was the main reason they ditched full-time DST back in 1974. I know I was in third grade that winter, and it was just depressing and miserable to go to school in the dark. I hated it, and apparently I was not the only one.

I mean, kids are going to school in the dark and people are going to work in the winter regardless, even under standard time. I imagine this is moreso today with bus schedules that are earlier than they used to be and longer and longer commutes. People end up benefitting far more from having the evening light.

Also, the way they implemented it was bound to cause people a shock. They flipped things to DST in the beginning of january instead of just leaving things as they were in the fall and having sunlight switch gradually with the time. They barely gave it more than a couple weeks to really give it a try.

I was in fourth grade and I don’t even remember it happening. But then again I got on the bus in the dark when we were on standard time.

Had to get up and verify something was reset for a client
On the plus side I reset my clocks that need manual resetting and I get to have a few more drinks

My dogs slept until 6! Latest (in clock time) that I have slept in months.
We have three dogs. (Long story how we ended up with there dogs.)

One dog is a "clock watcher". Tells us when its time to get up. Time to eat. Time to go to work. Time to go to bed.

Another dog is a herder. He herds us to our home offices. Herds us outside to go pee. Herds us to bed.

My life appears to be managed by our dogs.

With fewer businesses and jobs following strict 8-5 schedules, I don't see DST needed anymore. If you're concerned about having sunlight or safety of driving in the light, adjust your schedule not the clock.
