Here is the question so you don't have to go dig it up:
Northwestern is 17-8 the last 2 years, how far above .500 does a team have to be to not be considered mediocre?

2009
Townson (2-9)
Eastern Michigan (0-12) only won by 3!
Purdue (5-7)
Miami (OH) (1-11)
Indiana (4-8)
Illinois (3-9)
Wisconsin (9-3)

Overall Record of teams they beat? 24-59

Don't forget that they lost to Syracuse this year as well. And that 9-3 Wisconsin team is a 6-6 team at best in any other conference

2008
Syracuse (3-9)
Duke (4-8)
Southern Ill (9-3 D1AA)
Ohio (4-8)
Purdue (4-8)
Minnesota (7-6)
Michigan (3-9)
Illinois (5-7)

Total Record. 39-58.

9 of those wins come from a D1AA school

Maybe with a tough SEC schedule, but that's about it. Arizona wasn't 6-6 in the Pac-10 and Iowa handled them in a similar fashion as the Hawks beat Wisconsin. I'm not sure where you're going to find 6 loses ("at least") for Wisconsin in a weak Big 12 either.

Just curious, why did you conveniently leave Iowa off these two lists considering they beat them both years? It's just a tad bit misleading if you are making an argument about the records of the teams they've beaten when you leave off an opponent who went 9-4 and 10-2 respectively.

Go back and read the debate b/w Monty and others and you can figure it out yourself

Arizona was a different team with their new QB.

Big 10 is an awful conference and will show it again this bowl season. Wisconsin beat a lot of bad Big 10 teams by very little points and squeked out close wins against Northern Illinois and Fresno (OT).

Ah, yes, the old "Northwestern is really really good" excuse for losing to them. Always good for a laugh.

Arizona was a different team with their new QB.

They were also a different team before Iowa hurt their starting running back. Granted, they had a solid backup, but the kid was leading (or among the leaders, I can't remember for sure) the nation in rushing. You knew that, right?

And the "new qb" played against Iowa. He had 11 attempts and the starter had 14.

At least Wisconsin played a great half against Iowa. They dominated the first half and could have won the game but for John Clay's injury.

Haven't you figured this out yet Climb? Their arguments will never change. None of Iowa's wins will ever be legitimate nor impressive. Iowa could beat the Indianapolis Colts and these yahoos would come on here with a million excuses why, or that the Colts really aren't that good. They would point to the Colts' opponents records, leave off anyone they've beaten with a winning record then point out that the Colts haven't really beaten anyone.

There if clearly nothing that Iowa can do, or accomplish that will be legitimate to these idiots. This season clearly proved that. It must be extremely sad to be in their position. Their team always blows, so in order to make themselves feel better, all they can do is badmouth the team they consider to be their rival, even though this rival is far, far better than their team is.

Just exactly how good is the big 12? And Why exactly is the big ten so bad?

That's just the way it is Royal. It doesn't matter how awful the Big XII appears to be to the casual observer, it is immensely superior to the Big Ten. Please just accept that!

Well, this is a Cyclone board.

I'm a Hawkeye fan but I understand the biases that I'm arguing against when I post here. It's no different on HR or the Rivals site. There just as many posters blinded by their Black and Gold/Big Ten biases over there.

I think you could argue this case for almost every team that wins 7 or 8 games. What was the combined record of the teams ISU beat this year?

I would guess Nebraska is the only division 1 team that had a winning record and it took 4 turnovers inside your 10 to win by 2, yet Iowa State fans are excited and claiming Paul Rhoads is the next coming. I'm not saying you guys shouldn't be excited since it's been rough for clone fans the past few years, but if you want to make the who did you beat argument, don't forget about your beloved Clones.

I would also venture to guess that Texas the so called best team in your conference doesn't have that great of final resume, yet they are playing for National Championship. You can talk all you want about playing ranked teams at the time, but reality is the final standings determines what type of team you are.

Last 5 years for Bowl Games:

Big 10: 12-23 (2-7 in BCS games...both wins in same year)
Big 12: 21-17 (4-4 in BCS games)

Big 10 hasn't had a winning record in bowl season during those 5 years. Big 12 has all but one year.

This year doesn't look to be too different. I doubt the Big 12 does very good either but the only people that don't find the Big 10 a joke are fans of the Big 10

Since the BCS bowl games came out the Big 10 is 2nd lowest in winning percentage. Only conference lower....ACC

i guess the question to ask is why the big ten is a joke. Is it because football is not taken as seriously at the institutions and/or that football takes a backseat to other sports like bball?
