Classless Hawk fans....

I did go to ISU, for academic reasons, not to follow an athletic program. I also met lots of ISU students who did the same thing, all the while staying loyal to the Hawkeyes.

And why do ISU fans care so much about whether or not fans are students/alumni? A large fanbase is a good thing, regardless of whether or not they went to college. Their money and loyalty is just as good as an alumni's.

Makes you wonder why they were Hawk fans in the first place. BANDWAGON. I bet you cheer for the Yankees and Duke, too. It's COLLEGE athletics. Generally you're supposed to cheer for YOUR OWN COLLEGE. Not the arch rival down the road. If you're going to Iowa State and you cheer for Iowa (and didn't previously go there), you should probably question why you cheer for them in the first place...

WTF? Bandwagon? Cheering for the Hawkeyes is all I've ever known. My parents took me to all sorts of Hawkeye games when I was a youngster, hell, they took me to Kinnick's first night game against Miami. I've got piles of baby pictures covered in Hawkeye gear. I'm from Eastern Iowa where it's almost 90% Hawkeye fans. Bandwagon...I don't think so.

Here's a thread discussing a poll on maximumtailgating.com where we were 1 of 5 schools being voted on for best tailgating scene. The link just goes to their homepage as it is today, but you get the point.

I've officially wasted too much of my morning in a pissing match that isn't going to change anyone's opinion one way or another...

What's your degree in from ISU?

I can't find the poll. The link to "Tailgating Nation" is broken and leads no where, nice site. The best you can do is link to an old poll that doesn't exist, and when it did, was being spammed with votes from CF? Come on...you're better than that.

:skeptical:

Wondering how you know this is true?

I went to ISU for 4 years and tailgated there almost every Saturday that Iowa was on the road. I'm a pretty big sports fan and didn't know ISU and Mizzou fought over a telephone until last year.

Wow I didn't expect to find a debate about the best tailgating schools in this thread, but it's much more interesting than the original topic!

The thing holding back ISU tailgating in the national spotlight is the OVERALL (including game) experience. Tailgates are always better when you win and can continue jubilantly celebrating afterwords. We haven't had much of that recently, outside of the 2007 Iowa game.

I still stay after the game and have a few drinks while waiting for the masses to clear out (when I'm not driving), but it is usually very somber .

I told you it doesn't work anymore. Sure it was being spammed w/votes from CF, but that was AFTER they decided to put ISU in the top 5. Half the reason I dug up that old thread was because I remembered it and wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't crazy and remembering things that didn't happen. I was well aware you would respond exactly like you did, and while you know damn well what this site was saying, you can ignore it all the same because it doesn't fit your criteria of legitimacy. Everyone wins.

Back to the theme of the original thread.

I have never said anything -- good or bad -- to anyone wearing Hawkeye gear I see outside an ISU/Iowa football game, basketball game, etc. I mean, I saw this huge guy (meaning he weighed about 400 pounds with little or no muscle) at this year's Iowa State spring game wearing a Hawkeye shirt. My buddy and I wondered why in the heck someone would do that (unless he lost a bet or something). We never said anything to him and that would be the perfect time to give him grief. We also didn't observe anyone giving him grief.

We thought about going over and buying this guy and XXXX-L ISU t-shirt to put on.

Seriously, what would happen someone would wear an ISU shirt to an Iowa spring game? Or a Nebraska spring game?

So you've got an old poll that doesn't exist, a couple nameless Texas fans and Joe Gamble from Lubbock. Enough, you win! I've been totally pwned.. :jimlad:

I personally could care less what SI, ESPN and Playboy says. As a fan of both Iowa and ISU (I cheer for ISU over Iowa), I would rather tailgate in Ames over Iowa City any day of the week.

Yeah, what is this with the "magic bus"? I've heard iowa fans talk about this for years. Wow, a bus...now two busses. Whoop dee doo!! ISU has dozens of busses. Plus anything from firetrucks to hearses and everything in between. I own a tailgating bus. Wonder where my mention is in SI.

For iowa fans, don't bother responding because you're on my ignore list. But if I wanted to drink in someone's yard, I'd walk out my back door.

 Says the guy tailgating in a parking lot.

You don't get it... Keep rooting against your alma mater, making outlandish statements (Nebraska tailgating > than ISU) and being the internet tough guy voice of reason that keeps all of us Clone fans in line ON OUR OWN SITE. Your new sig says it all. You obviously derive a sense of pride from going to rival internet message boards and being a jack off. :notworthy: (:jimlad:)

Loyalty lies with your alma mater. Iowa State University gave you a solid education. The athletics and academics go hand in hand, so, you are the worst of all possible traitors.

:skeptical:

So, did you wear ISU colors to the games or Iowa colors? Did you cheer for ISU or the other team?

And if you didn't know about the Telephone trophy, then you aren't as big of a sports fan as you say. The phone series between ISU and Missouri started when the coaches from each team could hear each other on the line when the game was in Ames one year (1960 or 1959). The problem was fixed before the game. The next year, the same problem occured down in Columbia.

Also, I tried the link provided by Al_4_State. I didn't have a problem. Maybe you need to upgrade your computer.

Agree. All good here.
