Classless Hawk fans....

I never claimed to be a top 10 team and people on the Hawkeye boards agree with me 110% for the most part.

 This whole statement seems a bit of any oxymoron to me...how can it be 110% for the most part?

For the record, there are *** hole fans in all fan bases....

Why do Hawkeye's take such an active role in a Cyclone forum? I guess I don't understand why they would be wasting their time here in the first place? We might not be the best football team in the state, we might not be the best at any sport, but it would appear we have one of the best message boards around. I mean all these Hawkeyes, who know quality when they see it, are validating that, thanks and keep posting!

An ESPN writer's view on the top 10 tailgating schools in the nation: (ISU isn't there, Colorado is)

The Road Warrior: Best College Tailgating Scenes - Travel - ESPN

I never said ISU had the best in the Big 12, or the nation for that fact. Never the less, you stated that Nebraska's tailgating was better than ISU's, which you have yet to back up with any sort of facts. I'm assuming this is because you couldn't be any more wrong. Here is an article on SI on Campus from the Nebraska/USC game back in 2007...SI.com - SI On Campus - Tailgate Report Card: Nebraska - Friday September 21, 2007 12:36PM

Iowa, Playboy's #9 party school in America:

"No school does tailgating better than the University of Iowa." With tons of booze-hungry party-goers, hundreds of gallons of beer and the Magic School Bus, which is actually two school buses, one with a stage for live bands on top and another filled endless amounts of kegs. Who needs the game when you’ve got that?

But, nevertheless... these lists are all irrelevant, they didn't ask for the opinions of Al's buddies from Texas. And they obviously know a lot more than ESPN, Sports Illustrated and me.

I personally could care less what SI, ESPN and Playboy says. As a fan of both Iowa and ISU (I cheer for ISU over Iowa), I would rather tailgate in Ames over Iowa City any day of the week.

Yes, ESPN and SI's specialties are tailgating and partying. Their opinions on tailgating are more relevant than any other.

"Texas Tech fan Joe Gamble has been to every Big 12 stadium and several other major college football stadiums.

"We got in very easily," Gamble said. "It's probably the easiest we've gotten into any game in years."

He said Iowa State's tailgating compares with the University of Mississippi's, which he said has the best tailgating of any college.

"It certainly has the atmosphere," Gamble said"

Per a newspaper article I found online. ISU doesn't get any love from places like SI and ESPN who haven't likely ever taken the time to tailgate here.

Why did you soil the Iowa State campus with your presence for 7-10 years? Talk about a complete ingrate.

You should probably link that article...

That ends the debate I guess. I remember Playboy saying a similar thing about ISU in 2002. Here's a link with ISU's ranking that year, but the actual article praised Cyclone tailgating in much the same way. Can't find it though...

Dude, didn't you once say that you WENT to ISU? Did you cheer for your high school's arch rival too? I bet you were popular. I love it when people's biggest connection to a University athletic team is that they bought the t-shirt at their local Pamida.

Oh, to keep this on-topic. If you are just comparing tailgating at ISU and Iowa. I have enjoyed both. I do like that I don't need to hire a sherpa to find my way to Jack Trice. Iowa's campus is so discombobulated that you may have to park five miles away from the stadium and risk getting jacked in the face on the way home by some random dude.

I thought maybe it was just the rivalry until I moved to Minnesota. It was interesting to discover that they had a similar view that Hawkeye fans were more obnoxious than other fans. I would think more Iowa fans would be embarassed by their reputation, but most seem to be in denial.

I quote an ignorant post above.

It is common knowledge that there is considerable debate about which school is Iowa's biggest rival. ISU or Minnesota. Certainly the rivalry between Iowa an Minnesota would evoke such angst against Iowa. Which is somthing ISU has little experience with...having a bitter rival from their conference. To most Big 12 schools ISU is an afterthought. Except for the epic "telephone" rivalry with Missouri.. which most Mizzou fans are oblivious.

Stop the presses! TT fan Joe Gamble says Ames is easy to get into!

I did go to ISU, for academic reasons, not to follow an athletic program. I also met lots of ISU students who did the same thing, all the while staying loyal to the Hawkeyes.

And why do ISU fans care so much about whether or not fans are students/alumni? A large fanbase is a good thing, regardless of whether or not they went to college. Their money and loyalty is just as good as an alumni's.
