Cheikna Dembele

This guy is 21 which is great. By the time he was a SO he would be 23? I like the thought of that.

Wow. That article makes Cheikna sound like a wonderful pick-up for ISU and, just as importantly, like a good kid who would be a wonderful teammate to be around. What a pick-up that would be for next year! There aren't many 6'11" big men lying around this late in the game and we will sorely need it next year given what little size we currently have coming.

There's a lot to play out, but if a minor miracle happens - Dembele chooses the good guys, Monte stays and Malou is as good as he's been advertised - we might not have the drop off we all expected. I know it's too early to tell, but I'm hoping for the best.

Prohm putting in the full court press on CD. Looking like a high priority target at this point.

@coeryevens_10 Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm expected in tonight for 2017 SPI big man Checikna Dembele; they offered earlier in the month

Good. Let's hope he remembers the big wins and not just the recent losses on TV.

i don't think playing time is as attractive as we think it is. Cheik Diallo is a great example.
I don't think anyone would believe that Diallo committed to KU knowing he wouldn't play at all (or very little). He would have assumed, and the KU staff would have been saying, that he had a chance to come in and compete for a starting spot right away.

And the playing time pitch would depend on the kid. Hard to say if it would be important to CD or not.

Guessing Self didn't get Diallo to commit with the expectation he'd only be getting ~10 minutes per night during the season. Not saying he promised him or Bragg a certian amount of playing time but both were expected to contribute significantly before the season. Both had just as many blue blood options outside KU to play.

Playing time early is attractive to all recruits. Dembele is a late unranked diamond in the rough time so I doubt his expectations are that of a McD's AA either.

If your refering to not expect Dembele to immediately impact a team in year one even if promised minutes I'd agree. Posts take some time to adjust to the College level, Diallo, Alexander, Carter and Skal are recent examples.

I really hope we get this guy. I think with a year in the system for Carter and Malou/Young coming in, this guy would make me very comfortable with our posts being serviceable next year. I still feel our guards will be 80% of our offense next season, but these guys could be very useful defensively and on the glass

I agree. Dembele will likely be a physically mature 250+ forward next year. Imo he at least could give the team what Edozie should have last year.

Just to clarify he is 2016 class.
