Charles City looking to form new conference after racial issues

It’s more than the racist incident. That was just the final straw. Waverly has been notorious for poor sportsmanship for years, and WSR has always been considerably bigger than the other schools in the conference.
This. They have alienated the whole conference over several decades. I’d say this size difference provides a good rational reason but they have not endeared themselves to any other members on our off the field/court.

Where were they going and why wouldn’t it be better if it was dissolved? With only 6 schools it is the smallest conference. Obviously at 3 least of the teams had other homes. Probably could have blended 1-2 more in and left WSR that way.

Heard Western Christian pulled out of their conference but don’t know details so unsure

The Lakes is at 6 now, and will be at 5 at the end of the year with Western leaving (Spencer 559, Storm Lake 550, Spirit Lake 309, Estherville-LC 302, Cherokee 255). In the last 12 years, the Lakes has lost Sheldon (262), Emmetsburg (208), and now Western (213).

Western announced its departure ~16 months in advance, and still hasn't found a new home as far as I know. The Siouxland said no, then Western appealed to the state and got denied. They'd be the second-biggest school in the War Eagle (behind Unity), but I can't imagine that conference wanting them either. They may very well end up as an independent.

Those schools are in a odd spot. Schools that vary in size and the farther west you go, the less schools there are. The twin rivers conference is kinda ugly also. Has some schools in that 200 area down to some that probably don't even have 100. I know north Iowa and north union have looked at other options, but they don't fit very well into others also.

I don't see SF and Denver leaving the NICL as that conference appears to be on pretty solid footing. I don't know much about SF so them leaving wouldn't shock me, but I do know a few current Denver coaches and admins and they are pretty close and good friends with others at schools in the NICL and would be very surprised if they ever left
Denver and SF are a little small to be joining the UIC. They fit perfect in the conference they are in now. And as the above stated. They have good relationships with schools like DNH, A-P, etc..

NEIC is coming after Osage I know. Top of Iowa (which was a mess to start with) has had a couple schools approached about leaving. Had a couple smaller schools look to leave, one try to form their own by pillaging a few other schools. The NEIC vote is like The mention of Mizzou wanting to join the big ten, the HS conferences in north Iowa look to be changing soon.
Top of Iowa just is too big and covers too much area. 18 teams with some schools playing in conference 2+ hrs away. Should have never got rid of the corn bowl and just added a couple schools to that. The original corn bowl adding Newman, Osage, possibly Lake Mills would be just fine. Maybe could send Cresco and invite. But as they sit currently it is a disaster. Osage being the top dog in a lot of sports in the conference makes me surprised they would want to move.

The TOI is split in two groups and now just act as two conferences in most sports. So Osage and Newman went east. The north Iowa conference had 11 when they merged, should have sat on those but Osage had issues because of wrestling. Heard Osage tried to change TOI to bigs and smaller due to VB. 5 of the 6 big schools are in the west. Told VB and wrestling are Osages issues. VB would be served by getting in with the west.

LM wouldn’t want to join the corn bowl I’m believing. They are content in the west and have good travel distances. They would t gain anything, besides easier comp, going east; and besides, they do well in the west they way it is.

Osage has talked to two other conferences that I was told by someone in the know and was thinking a third one could come up

Would they slip the TOI up again then potentially?

If the north Iowa had stayed alive, Osage would have been 4/11 in beds.

What I was told was rearrange the deck chairs. North Iowa tried making their own conference since they are small in their group but nobody wants to join a bunch of small schools incase a couple close.

Being a racist high schooler directly correlates to having racist parents (not an absolute but I would bet it's at least 90% correlated). My question is how does a town in NE Iowa become so racist?
It’s the Waterloo effect. People work there, but don’t want to live there.

People left black hawk county for taxes, and to get away from the “urban” element.

Denver is another town that has seen growth, along with Jesup and Dike in different directions

It’ll be interesting to see what Little Hawkeye does with Grinnell leaving for WaMac in 2023. Bounderant, North Polk, urbandale, DMC, and ottumwa possible additions. Also Newton, oskaloosa and PC kicking tires of the Alliance Conference.
