Charles City looking to form new conference after racial issues

Jesup is on pace to outgrow the NICL but I can't imagine them voluntarily leaving being a founding member. Amazing how much that community has invested in the school district and they're seeing real rewards.

Problem for the NEIC is that NFV and Osage (if they go) only gets you to 7. You've got to be at at least 8 to be truly viable.

It’s the Waterloo effect. People work there, but don’t want to live there.

People left black hawk county for taxes, and to get away from the “urban” element.

Denver is another town that has seen growth, along with Jesup and Dike in different directions
It amazes me that people that have never left their own little bubble think Waterloo is this big, bad violent city. Yes, there is a 10 block area that you have to go out of your way to get to that's a little rough occasionally but the rest of the city is just like any other mid-sized midwestern city.

oelwein back.

Problem is some schools may grow or shrink over years and that skews a conference. Eagle grove has grown bigly with the new plant. Athletics still stink. I know they have chatted about going back to the NCC.

I went to their 'Irish Fest' a few years ago and I'll just say that this is very accurate.

It's actually a nice downtown iirc.

Football districts get redrawn every other year. Maybe conferences as a whole should get reshuffled every 10 years.

Per the Twitter machine... @nwpeters

The NEIC Invites:
MFL MarMac
North Fayette Valley
Oelwein
Osage
Sumner-Fredericksburg

Now we'll see who accepts.

Oelwien makes since and so does NFV, Osage borderline but the rest are very small in comparison.

They've had 7 forever. What does viable even mean in small Iowa HS athletics? Their TV deal is going to be sick?

I would expect the majority, if not all, to accept NEIC invite.
I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't. That really stabilizes the NEIC and makes the Upper Iowa expansion easier for them with NFV gone. The NICL goes back to 14 and can go to two divisions instead of the pods they're using now.

That's the right play by the NEIC. I could see NFV and Osage being interested. Osage was a member of the NEIC waaay back in the day. I can't imagine Oelwein comes back having just left, but I suppose stranger things have happened. MFL-MM would probably be the next most likely. They can make 7 members work ...they have for decades, but 8 would be better especially if it's the right 8. The conference is over 100 years old so I hope it survives. That would be a lot of tradition to see go by the boards.

If this doesn't work, then I assume Waukon, C'Wood and NH accept the invite to the UIC if that's still on the table. I'm not sure where Decorah goes in that scenario but they'll figure something out. CC probably goes west/sw with Clear Lake, Hampton, IFA, etc.

Waverly is full of a-holes. Even people who live in Waverly will admit that. The racism is the obvious red flag that started this whole discussion and in no way do I make light of that, but CC has plenty of its own issues to deal with. No other member of the NEIC has ever considered CC to be a bastion of sportsmanship and they've looked down their nose at the smaller schools forever. Part of their problem is that they were a dominant member of the NEIC in most sports for years and they struggle with ceding that success to other schools, particularly WSR. They've been very good in softball (and have one of the best FFA chapters in the state), but aside from that they're now an also ran in a conference made up largely of 2A schools. Nobody likes WSR, but CC has plenty of their own issues that they need to focus on.
