CFTV: Hoiberg post-UAB video

I always find the 'team x just wanted it more' to be obnoxious. Saying one team put forth more effort is reasonable, but to act like either team didn't want to win is dumb.

yeah I agree. I think most of these people either

A)Are Confusing effort with focus. I think the team lost focus at times today(And their other head scratching losses), which led to the rebounding disparity, lost sight of passing lanes, turned it over at a high clip, etc. Effort? Nah, they play their ***** off, just not in the correct ways sometimes.

B)Think that effort and a can-do attitude can solve everything! Just try harder! (Lol)

If anything I think this team might have been trying too hard to meet expectations set from the fans, media, and even themselves. One of Hoiberg's comments pre-tourney was that he was trying to tell the guys to relax, and just play their best game possible, and enjoy the ride. Sometimes it's almost as if guys like Georges and Naz are trying too hard to put the entire team on their back, which results in botched plays and trying to force the ball when they shouldn't.

Gonna be a long offseason but hopefully this festers in a good way and motivates them to improve like hell.

Effort and a can do attitude can fix boxing out and rebounding. It's one thing if the ball doesn't bounce your way, it is another if you stand there and watch the ball. So yes, just try harder is the solution.

They care......just not enough to box out. Rebounding is just heart and hustle mixed with fundamentals they learned in elementary school. They haven't boxed out all year so it just seems like they don't care. But they say they do, so they must.

I am sure that worked for you in junior high, but this is the NCAA tournament.

Well, UAB was quicker and more athletic.Bigger at some positions too. Do you think there is a reason why those attributes are sought after in basketball players. Also, some guys are just better rebounders- their is a talent to rebounding. It is way more than effort and attitude.

The one UAB dude averaged 3 rebounds per game this season, today he had 9 offensive rebounds alone. We've all seen how good Hogue can rebound, specifically last year, today he had 3.

I'm 5'10, can I rebound against these guys with effort and attitude? Hell no. But Iowa St has guys that have shown previously, that they are more than capable of out rebounding UAB.

Do you really believe that UAB was that much more superior in athleticism?

Ah yes, I forgot the part where basketball fundamentals no longer applied in college.

Naz long said they got lackadaisical. To me that means they stopped putting forth the effort and focus, but go ahead and keep claiming the cusa team was more athletic, and that our effort wasn't a problem.

That's just Long using cliches in an interview. Is he really admitting that he missed shots because he wasn't trying? Of course not. It is his way of putting a label on it and trying to move on. He works harder than anyone in the gym during practice and between practices, so it isn't really about effort.

If anything, this team had supreme confidence that it could win in the end. Yesterday, it just didn't happen.

We need to get Kentucky style focus for 2015-2016. It doesn't matter who we play, on what night, and what is at stake ~ We play balls out for 40 minutes to get the W. Doesn't matter what else is going on.

I hate John Calipari but his halftime interview at the Kentucky game last night stuck with me. He doesn't care about bench games, or playing time or egos. He starts the 5 best guys on his team to win, period. The fact that they are 35-0 backs up that statement.

Lol. That is all you have? That's right, many on CF have morphed that into meaning the team thought they could just show up.

No Naz saying they got lackadaisical as token answer does not mean our effort was the problem. Execution was the problem, and it had a lot to do with UAB's superior rebounding ability. UAB was the more athletic team imo with BDJ and Nader on the bench.

So you are blaming fred then? We had the athletes and didn't use them?

Watched the interview again. Can't imagine how tough that must have been for Fred. The thing that stood out this time was how strongly he came out in support of Niang. I'm predicting right now that Niang will have an All-American year next year. He came as a great player and has gotten better and better each year, even as defenses have gotten much better at preparing for him. With Hoiberg's public support and private coaching, Niang is going to be amazing next year.

I wonder how bdj improved his rebounding numbers so much this year. He must have become much more athletic and bigger than he was the previous years.

It is appalling how many so called fans even questioned this. These guys put their heart and souls into this, and we take every possession that does not go our way as "not wanting it".

I never question an athletes desire to win. No one succeeds and gets to this level without passion for the game. The only thing I question about this team was their focus. It happened a lot this year. Sometimes they would just come out flat. That's a lack of focus and was pretty evident on a few occasions this year. I have no idea if I'm right or how to fix it if it's true, but there's a reason every few games we were asking if this is the "wake-up call" the team needed.

It is rough to see fans bash players and coaches though. No one goes out with the intention to lose and I can guarantee everyone that no one goes out to deliberately **** this fanbase off. Just remember, no matter how bad you feel right now, or how bad you felt immediately following that game, put yourself in their shoes, what you feel right now is nothing compared to the loss they feel.

A lot of us feel like the team let us down. Well, how would you feel if you felt like you let yourself down, your team down, your family, coach and a raving fanbase down. It truly is time to pick up the pieces, do some healing, forgiving and start looking towards next year.

Well yea that... and the fact that his bench alone is probably just as athletic as the majority of D1 schools starting lineup also helps.

Just watched CFH's interview again...I think its almost tougher to watch today than it was yesterday. And that's after having time to come down from whatever emotion that was after the game (a sick combination of mad, sad, confused, denial, frustration, etc., etc.).

People keep talking about the teams focus. You can't gameplan for constantly missing shots, it just happens sometimes. Sucks when everyone not named Matt Thomas are cold as ice.
