Cap City League 6/28

Trying to get this back on track.

SDW: another off night tonight. However, I liked that he wasn't afraid of (and actually consistently initiated) contact on his drive. He was shooting so poorly his frustration was quite transparent.

He seemed frustrated the other night also. I hope it is the sort of frustration that propels him and the team forward, not holds them back.

I know, but that other kid that kind of looks like Matt (#33 maybe?) was hitting it pretty good in the 2nd half and so was Matt. I just felt like the way SDW's shot was looking in the 2nd half, either he needed to drive or pass. Because the 3 wasn't there.

And every team in the CCL is basically dependent on the Iowa State guys and that doesn't keep just about every other player from passing at least occasionally.

I had heard that SDW was behind Naz and Bubu in March. And frankly I can see it. And I suspect that if SDW doesn't get the playing time that those that have bought into the CCL legend, it is going to cause a lot of people to get upset. SDW is going to be next years message board fight.

And I really like him....I just don't know that he is going to be more than a 12 minute guy next year. But he will only be a freshman.

It's probably not going to be popular on the board, but I'm with you on SDW. I didn't see his 67 point game but watched yesterday. If he can drill 3's he'll help off the bench, but I don't think he's got the size, strength and ups to penetrate and finish in the Big 12. Naz is bigger, stronger, faster, and he's looking good outside the arc. Really impressed with him, and Nader looks like a taller version of Naz. At 6-7 he is strong, handles the ball well, and can drill 3's. Both he and Naz were really strong penetrating to the hoop and finishing. This is the 2nd time I've seen Edozie and I'm liking him more and more. Good size, athleticism, a hard worker, and he's eager to get better. Raw offensively but should be tough on the boards and will outrun and outquick most other big men.

I went last night and was very impressed with Nader. That guy can play

Yes, with his handle and outside shot he could easily be a 6-7 #2 guard if Fred wants him there.

But he never will as long as Thomas and SDW are here. Having him play a 3-4 switching with Hogue and Niang would be perfect. The only thing missing is Jaylen/Abu to play the 4-5 with Niang.

True nobody is going to budge Thomas from the 2, but Nader's size and strength gives him a huge advantage over SDW. He's also plenty fast. It will be nice to have a guy like him that can play the 2,3 or 4 if he has to. He's more of a face the basket guy, but wouldn't be surprised if he can play the 4 if he had to in Fred's system.

Agreed

I guess we're forgetting about Naz. From what I've seen he might be our most impoving player, including SDW. He could be a factor at the 1 or 2. I thought he outplayed Morris yesterday using his size and strength.

The great thing about Long is that he can play three positions which makes him a very valuable player off the bench especially with his defensive capabilities.

I saw my first cap city game last night. U boys are significantly higher on SDW than I am. Dude needs to bulk up... he won't be able to penetrate well enough at this level. I can see why he redshirted. Thomas is the better player. Loved his game all around. Long looks bigger and will be a somewhat solid role player throughout his career here. Loved Nader... nuff said. I liked what I saw from Hogue both offensively and defensively. I couldn't get a good read from Morris. Edozie has potential, but needs some more work. We're gonna lean on him alot, as he's our biggest dude. I see him as our new Booker.

Isn't that why he redshirted last year? I heard he was up to 200 pounds. For a 6'4'' guy, that really isn't that bad. Curtis Stinson was about that size, if memory serves, and he didn't have much trouble getting to the rack. Needless to say, he's a freshman, and he is already at 200 pounds and still trying to add weight. He came in at about 170-180, so he is capable of adding the weight. I'm not too concerned about it. I think he will be a frustrating player to watch this year, he'll probably have those games where he'll go for 30 points and then turn around the next night and struggle to score 5. Hot/cold shooter from the sound of it. I count myself in the crowd that thinks by his soph. and junior seasons, he'll be a great one.

Oh great, now Percy doesn't even care enough to show up and play? He is lazy and terrible. Will never play another minute.

(:jimlad: for the sarcasm-impaired)

SDW can probably add more bulk but 200 pounds is good for him, IMO. Remember that Clyburn was only 210 and had about 3 inches on SDW.

I don't see 30 point games coming out of SDW, but I hope I'm wrong. Granted I didn't see his 60-some odd point outing...

I've been to 4 of the CCL games and he looked by far his worst last night. Not saying I'm really high on him but he struggled last night compared to the other times I've seen him play

...and he's not 200lbs. I'd bet my life on it.

I'd be surprised if he's 200 lbs also. He's only a rs freshman and and should continue to get better, but right now Naz is just a bigger, faster, and stronger player, and a better finisher at the hoop. I know it's the cap city league but he really looked good at the point in his game going against Morris. Naz could be the surprise player for us this year.
