Bubu Appealing

decisions about athletes should come down to the coaches and maybe AD. the university president shouldn't be involved. it's micro-managing and sets up ill will between his own employees. leath should have stuck to his job, which is fundraising.

The University is bigger than just one athlete who was dumb enough to put him into a shady position. I think it's Leath's right to have a say in matters like this.

Man you're pissy today, and your arguments terrible. You don't think he shouldn't appeal/have his removal overturned because of what he might have done to the girl, or what's in his best interest, but because you don't think he's any good. wow
Yeah I dont get why basketball abilities are even a point of discussion in a thread about his appeal. If you want to discuss if Bubu is good or not am sure there are plenty of threads about that. It should have no impact what so ever in the deternination.

I'm starting to get the idea that the group that doesn't think Bubu should appeal believe that he shouldn't appeal because he's not a good player and would not be helpful to the team.

Using this terrible logic, I'll play along. Why wouldn't we want another player on the team? If he's not good (as many on here believe), Hoiberg won't play him. Let's let Hoiberg decide who should get the playing time though.

Sometimes I do forget how many posters on here are better coaches and talent evaluators than Fred.
I don't think that's completely true. I am one of the people that has mixed feelings on him appealing. I really liked having him on the team and thought he contributed, but he might have done something that, while there was not enough evidence to charge him, might have been bad enough to get him removed from the team. Also it brings his name back into the press which might not be the best thing for him.

At least no has been mentioning that Bubu has a case to sue the school if the appeal isn't overturned. Then we can really see the stupid ones here.

um..yes. if you have it taped--

Scotty tied it--was promptly taken out, and wee imploded with Bubu

I don't have it taped, but according to the box score Scotty tied it, with a lay-up, 42-42 at the 16:28 mark.
He then missed a jumper at 15:43. 42-44
He then missed a 3 pointer at 14:36. 42-46
He then made 2 free throws at 13:49. 44-48

I am guessing he may have been subbed out at this point, but the game wasn't what you said it was. Kentucky went on a run while Bubu was in, but a team like Kentucky is going to do that even if Scotty had been in. We would have had to play a flawless game to beat them and during their run we missed free throws, took bad shots, committed fouls, etc. Every Bubu thread you bring up the UCONN and Kentucky games that Bubu was the reason why each team made a run. Did he make errors? Sure, but so did the rest of the guys on the team. We relaxed vs UCONN and vs Kentucky we played as hard as we could to fight back from being down double digits only for Kentucky to make a similar run.

In the age of google anything short of overturn is devastating. Before Leaths decision it appeared he was a victim who had poor judgement. Now everyone thinks he is a rapist who got off on a technicality. If he is innocent he should absolutly appeal.

I'm just not sure a successful appeal will have the same effect you do. Besides, if the Regents agree with Leath, then he has two sets of people saying he got off on a technicality. I know it's difficult to do, but if he wants to do something, a lawsuit against the women might be the best option. I'm not sure an appeal would clear his name.

He should have a say, but not to sole say. Would make more sense to have Leath, the student president and someone else be a 3-person board who reviews appeals with a hearing of all involved parties. One person being able to overturn a decision like this in the manner it was done is wrong.

He's the president, of course he should of final and sole say.

You may be right, but it would appear he accepted it if he did nothing. If I were innocent I think I would fight and do everything possible. I pled not guilty to a mip when I wasn't drinking just sitting at a table where I had dinner and as it turned to bar hours at 9pm a cop came in to check ids and the guy drinking had just left and the waitress hadnt cleared the beer yet. When the cop came to our table and there were 4 beers and 4 people he gave me a minor in possession. I argued with him asked for a breathalizer (he refused this was in Iowa City at Mondos). Anyway I fought and spent a lot of time and money fighting a $26 ticket because I was ****** off and innocent. Logically I shoulf have just moved on...so I cant fault him.

I think I know why you chose your screen name... :twitcy:

I'm not sure why people think Fred would play Bubu over better people? I think he would do what's best for the team. I also seem to remember our team playing a lot better last year when we got Bubu back.

Surprised that we haven't already had a public records request to find out who brought the matter to Leath. That person may become the next Stephen Bartman.

Here's a theory; Bubu tried to transfer to another school to keep on playing basketball but other schools won't touch him due to the baggage (whether that baggage has been earned or not), so at this point Bubu has nothing left to lose by appealing, and a lot to gain by being reinstated.

I remember writing at the time the result of the appeal was announced that if I was Bubu I would be ready to wash my hands completely of all things ISU and would seek to move on elsewhere. Bubu might not have that option to play basketball at anywhere besides ISU, hence the reason for his appeal.

Bubu can't transfer and play basketball unless he has already graduated or he is going to a Div. 2 or NAIA school. He is already in his 5th year and that's it as far as Div. 1 eligibility.

I believe this is right. He either plays at ISU or he never plays Div 1 bball again.

If I were him, I would appeal this as far as I could. He obviously made a mistake(s), but at least legally he was found innocent. Even as it stands now, he missed, what, 17 games? That is a pretty heavy suspension for a first time violation (that we know of), especially when it has no legal ramifications.

I doubt he wins this appeal, but I am pulling for him. He would help this team, and with the limited knowledge I have on the details, I think a 17-game suspension is enough. We'll have to see how this whole thing pans out.
