Good read Blum, in the end it is 'W's'..... I know statistically Sam is good, but in the end does he use the pieces on offense in the right way to get the team wins? I think more than not no as you look at his record as starter. And that is the difference maker, he found a way to get half of those close games over the past few years I think this conversation would be different that he would be recognized as one of the best QB's in ISU history.... Stats are one thing but executing under adversity, is the bigger, some of this fault falls on the coaching staff but some is one Sam.... executing when it counts never seemed to be his strong suit.....
This is absolutely true, wins are the ultimate barometer. Thought it was an interesting comparison nonetheless and hopefully makes some think a little more. Appreciate you reading.Good read Blum, in the end it is 'W's'..... I know statistically Sam is good, but in the end does he use the pieces on offense in the right way to get the team wins? Two of those quarterbacks were NFL quarterbacks, one won't be. There is something about a quarterback, you have to have confidence and play with an edge, two of those quarterbacks had that, one of those doesn't. SR reminds me a lot of a Jay Cutler, while both are good people, neither have that leadership ability you need in a quarterback.
This. Ws are the stat people will remember the most and Sam just doesn't have many of them despite the pieces around him.
We seem to have all the pieces on offense to be good, but just cannot put it all together. We need to finish more drives with scoring points, cannot leave anything on the field. The last three games, we had a total offense of 500 yards per a game, but the scoring would not reflect that kind of offense productivity. Putting the ball in the end zone is what they are struggling with now, how do you fix that, I do not know.
Examples? There are plenty of times Richardson has gotten us in position to win, but someone else screwed it up. West Virginia a few years ago, Texas two years ago, Texas last year, Toledo this year, KState last year off the top of my head. He also had a couple clutch drives to win at Iowa last year. Most of our close losses the last few years have been caused by the defense not being able to stop anybody when it counts.
I'm suggesting that the talent level is there to be competitive and he hasn't been. I have said for a long time that I believe its a coaching and mental problem with him. His decision making is very questionable despite the fact that he has had some nice compliments on the field with him.Despite the pieces around him? Are you suggesting that the rest of the team is more talented than any Big 12 team other than Kansas the last few years? I'm not saying Richardson is great, but he's also not the reason for a lot of our losses.
Honest question, how would Seneca do with this receiving core? His best receiver was Jack Whitver.Despite the pieces around him? Are you suggesting that the rest of the team is more talented than any Big 12 team other than Kansas the last few years? I'm not saying Richardson is great, but he's also not the reason for a lot of our losses.
