Big 12 Embarrassing

WVU fans really ****** about the refs. That's been a fairly common theme for Big XII teams. Too consistent to be just a coincidence. Some of these calls are laughable. TCU lineman were letting go of their blocks really early just to not get called for holding.

I think it's the way he copes with the Rose Bowl blowout, come over here and try to work it out nasty among Cyclone fans while telling us that we're obsessed with other teams.

Hok fans are really Butt Hurt right now .....how would U like to get Blown Out every time you play in the rose bowl....

Anybody remember Washington Huskies 28 and the fight fries 0...Zero...Zip Nada...............

Last 3 Trips to the granddaddy have been Rips.....lol....lol....go to the corner and have a good Cry Hok fans

Probably mentioned already...I haven't been able to keep up with the whole thread...

It looks like the Big 12 was the only Power 5 conference whose bowl opponents were all from other Power 5 conferences...

Needed to play more pac 12s. We were 2-0 against them. Even nebby beat ucla, weak conference.

I did not realize we were only P5 conference to play against all P5 teams. Either bowl committee wanted to laud us ( doubtful) or try and embarass us ( likely ) as we will always get heat being the conference they want to eliminate. I never trust Bob Stoops or OU in a big game - he chokes - now Chokelahoma U. TCU and Baylor and WVU save Big 12 bacon. Choke U will have to go undefeated to see another CFP invite. Looked like Pac 12 Stanford should have gone over OU and MSU - both total flops. Horrible bowl season all around - but the Rose was sweet!

big 12's bowl games have been brutal since realignment, last year you had OU playing the ACC's second best team in Clemson, Baylor played the #2 b1g team Michigan State, K State played a top 15 UCLA team and TCU played a top 10 Ole Miss team. Throw in Okie St playing a rated Washington team and UT/WV getting matchups with SEC teams that finished higher records and its easy to see why the league has struggled. 4 teams essentially played the #2 team in a p5 league.

This is what we should want, though. Why would we complain that the Big 12 has higher quality bowl opponents? Just win the games.

Let us not forget OU was up at half yet Clemson exposed them. They went thru meat of Big XII schedule playing teams with backup QBs & they did not have elite depth. Clemson is as good as advertised if not better & they had a chip beings they were a #1 who was an underdog.

Huge wins for both West Virgina and TCU yesterday. Props to both of them for battling but it was evident in that TCU game that the drop off at quarterback when Adam's left was too much for Oregon to overcome. Some said that same thing about TCU as well after Boykin got arrested but no matter how you slice it having those 2-3 extra days helps when it comes to losing your starting quarterback. Oregon had no extra time whatsoever and ultimately when your 2nd string center can't get your back up quarterback the football there's going to be issues. I would argue they had just as many issues defensively as they did offensively. The credit should go to TCU's 2nd string, what a story with that kid. I can't imagine how hard it would be to play that recently after your father passes away, let alone to play that well.

The WVU game was a dogfight and they deserved to win that game. It likely should've been by more IMO as there were numerous coaching Gafs by Todd Graham. One of them goes back to a thread I started 2 weeks ago about going for 2. It further justified my point in that thread about coaches not understanding the game of football from a statistical standpoint. 4.56 left last night, ASU down by 1 and they score a TD. Does Todd keep his offense out there? Nope...Kicks the PAT. If that's what earns you a 2.8 million dollar salary and a 200k bonus this year, then sign me up. Either that or he had a personal bet on his guys at +1.5.......

I know you think I'm a troll so I'll give you my honest opinion about the Iowa game. I think they were overwhelmed early in that game and clearly got so far behind that they had no hope of making a comeback. Had they started the game like they started the 2h I think they would've made it a game but ultimately they didn't have enough to stop McCaffery and couldn't give Beathard the protection he needed for them to have success passing. It was pretty obvious that they let the big game stage get into their heads and came out like deer in headlights. As Iowa State fans we're accustomed to that feeling of either coming out hot and sleeping our way through the 2nd half. It's a battle all coaches have to deal with and until they get their teams to play both halves, things like this will continue to happen. I often struggled with how Coach Rhoads could get the guys to come out and play the way we did in the first halves this year and then do the furthest thing from show up in the 2nd half. So I looked into the halves of each game this year bc I thought for sure we were killing it 1h and choking it away 2h. We were actually outscored in the 1h of games this year 190-189. It was evident from being at all the games this year that we sucked in the 2h and looking at the scorelines it only reassures it. We were outscored 175-113 this year and that's actually a little deceiving because we outscored UNI 21-0 and we all know that's a game we absolutely should win year after year and that wasn't the case under Rhoads.

Back to the Big10/Big12 argument some of you think I'm trying to argue. I honestly wasn't making it into a Big10/Big12 thing or Iowa/Iowa State thing. I do still believe that it was another disastrous bowl season for the Big 12 though, my opinion will not change on that. We finished 3-4 but it took two wins yesterday to get to that point against two teams that give up close to 35ppg to their opponents. The only conferences we finished ahead of were the Mid-American, American Athletic, and lastly the 2 Independent schools who went 0-2. I could compare the wins between the two conferences but again I'm not trying to argue Big10/Big12.

The only game that truly matters when it's all said and done is the Championship game and neither conference has a team representing them this year. Until that happens again I don't think there's any argument to be had. Last year there was, and it wasn't a member of the Big 12. Sorry this post kind of went all over the place.

The Big 12 ended up doing OK during the Bowl season at 3-4. We were only favored to win the OU and WVU games. However, only Baylor and TCU beat the spread.

Exciting wins by WVU and TCU saved the Big12 serious embarrassment of going 1-6. If the Big12 wants to be considered an elite conference and it champion a near sure thing for a playoff bid, schools need to build defenses that can compete against SEC teams. Big12 teams need to become more physical along the DL and LB positions. Giving up an average of 44 points in 7 bowl games is a problem. The mantra has been the high octane Big12 offenses are the reason Big12 defenses give up so many points. After this bowl season it would appear Big 12 offenses are no more high powered than the SEC, ACC or PAC12. The high powered offenses are just as much a function of bad defense.

The good thing is that presents an opportunity for ISU.

Docson, Boykin, every Baylor QB and Linwood...those are pretty catastrophic injury/off the field losses

I know they won their bowls anyway, but without those issues I think it's probably TCU/Baylor in the playoff or like last year where TCU got snubbed but everyone acknowledged them as the #2 team anyway.

The problem for league perception (outside of having almost no representation on CFP committee) continues to be two things.

-OU and Texas not coming through the way Alabama and Ohio State come through.
-Math. People just can't get that a 10 team league producing 3 elite teams is like a 14 team league producing 4 or 5. The top of the conference really wasn't the problem this year, it was the bottom and middle that were a little down. KSU, Tech, ISU...those are the teams that underperformed if you look at some more objective metrics.

Pretty sure ASU would have only been up by 5 had they not converted the PAT. If WVU knows they have to get a TD either way I think you put the extra pressure on making them convert the PAT instead of your defense should you try to drum up a 2 point conversion and fail. Keep in mind ASU's offense wasn't able to get short yardage when they needed it. ASU had big plays keeping them in the game but WVU's goal line defense was strong all game really limiting ASU's red zone options. You're looking at it hindsight.

Also, you seem to be taking away a lot of the credit from TCU and their win with contradictory points. The team put up 38 straight unanswered points. A backup QB and center has no control over that. TCU's defense stepped up and made plays when they needed to and their offense started clicking after halftime adjustments.

The troll also ignores TCU had possibly the best WR in the nation out and a ton of injuries on defense all year. If you lose to TCU yesterday, and you're making injury excuses for the other team...you're either stupid or a troll.

If they hawks would have thrown away those awful jerseys they may have came back. Patterson threw away his ugly black shirt and then TCU took off.

Iowa fans will now blame the jerseys.

I gave both credit to TCU's Defense and offense. Simply said Oregon losing their starting QB and Center played a huge role in them scoring 31 in 1h and so little in 2h.

Arizona State would have only been up by 5 had they not gotten their 2 point conversion. Statistically speaking a 5 point lead doesn't do you much more than a 6 point lead except you have to hope they miss their PAT. How many people miss a PAT? Rarely ever in college, different story in NFL. Add to that fact that Arizona State had already blocked and returned one of WVU's PAT's for 2 points and it's more of a reason to go for 2 in my opinion. Statistically speaking though they absolutely should have gone for two in that situation, not 9 out of 10 times but rather 10 out of 10 times.

West Virginia gave up 40+ points, every spread team struggles to punch it in when they are inside the 5. They are so used to having a larger part of the field to work with that it really limits their playbook. Don't give WVU's defense that credit.

Speaking of Stupid...

If you can read, which I'm assuming someone with as little IQ as you have it may be a struggle but eventually you got your way through it. I said that injuries and suspensions affected both teams, not just Oregon. Are you going to try and tell me that if you're the head coach of either Oregon or TCU and I give you the option to lose your quarterback 3 days before the game or halfway thru the bowl game that you'd choose to lose your qb halfway through? Would that answer change if you knew you were going to lose your starting center as well. Doubtful. Then again someone with as little IQ about football as yourself probably have little to no idea of the importance of a center. Wide receivers are a dime a dozen.
