UConn won't even take the phone call if it's basketball only. The only way moving makes any sense for them is if it gives football stability.Doesn't sound too bad. But I wonder if we also add UConn for basketball only.

It's all about what the TV folks are willing to pay for. At this point, ESPN/FOX aren't willing to pay $32M each for WSU &OSU.I'm so tired of the Gonzaga ****. If you are going up there, take OSU and WSU. You know, teams with a football program?
Agreed. Wish the talk of OSU/WSU would go away. Not sure how many times the conference's own sources need to shut that down in order to get it through people's heads.WSU amd Oregon state have no chance at big 12. When relaible sources speak to Big 12 legacy ADs they say no, it isnt even a thought.
1. Big 12 needs to stabilize and build relations with its 6 new members.
2. WSU and Ore. State add nothing.
3. the "hateful eight" will not allow a PAC voting block of 6 teams that could derail a lot of things.
4. WVU, UCF, and Cinn. will vote no for travel reasons, and unlike the ACC, the big 12 wont force Ore state and Wash state down three members throats. If it was notre dame or someone, yes they would. but there wont be any infighting over 2 teams no one wants.
IMO "never say never" probably applies to WSU and OSU to Big12.WSU amd Oregon state have no chance at big 12. When relaible sources speak to Big 12 legacy ADs they say no, it isnt even a thought.

I think our schedule is plenty hard enoughGonzaga more than pays for themselves with NCAA units considering a reduced share. It makes too much sense not to do it.
Comparing adding Gonzaga to Wazzu/OSU is apples to Volkswagens.
Washington State would be the 4th most-watched school in the new Big 12. And damn are the new additions dogs outside BYU and Utah.IMO "never say never" probably applies to WSU and OSU to Big12.
Further Big12 football expansion waits until the ACC implodes or 2030ish when the Big12 negotiates its next TV deal.
WSU and OSU to Big12 only makes sense if the TV Networks pay the market rate. And they have a considerable responsibility to keep their main sports as highly competitive and grow fan interest.
Also, who knows what the Big 10 and SEC final # of teams. If it's 20-24 teams, it could mean the Big12 isn't done being raided. So the Big12 might eventually look to add football teams from other than the ACC.

Shouldn’t Clemson have announced their ACC departure by now?
It’s coming … any day now … just a little farther …

If ESPN/FOX are willing to pay for elite basketball schools that could be incremental $ for existing 16 schools.
I feel we will end up 4 or 6 team scheduling pods to play rivals 2x a season and others 1x. Also once we see 18+ team conferences- I don't see the need to play everyone.
Whoa what’s your source on that? McMurphy said the per team payout would remain the same. I’m not premium, but Chris indicated teams would have to take a haircut in a tweet, but I took that as like a mil or two per year.Adding the last 4 schools to the conference cost ISU about $6 million per year for the next 7 years. They can't keep adding teams that take expected money off the table and hope to just catch up at some point down the road.
Pollard said it today when taking about adding Gonzaga on Murph and Andy and on the coaches show tonight.Whoa what’s your source on that? McMurphy said the per team payout would remain the same. -$6M is almost a 20% drop from $31.7M per year. That is a lot!
While I like this idea of sticking it to ASU and Utah a bit, I think in hindsight we did the right thing. Seeing that the ACC went out and got Stanford and Cal, perhaps they could have also scored ASU and Utah if the B12 had played hardball.my understanding is ESPN agreed to pay for 4 pac teams, but fox would only pay for 2.
espn was like 21 mil per team, fox like 12.
to pay the extra 2 equal money as the rest, the 14 teams had to agree to eat 24 mil.
comes out to less than 2 mil per team.
IMHO we shouldve left arz state and utah hanging in the wind, or gave tham a 21 million take it or leave it offer.
Ouch $6M per year makes it a harder decision than I thought in retrospect. That said, I still think I would have taken them as they provide more stability and competitive strength for the conference . They could potentially make that up in CFP or NCAA tourney units. While I like this idea of sticking it to ASU and Utah a bit, I think in hindsight we did the right thing. Our goal was to kill the P12 and alsi position ourselves as the clear number 3 behind the B1G and SEC. Letting those schools slip off to the ACC over a few million bucks gives the ACC a much better shot of being number 3 when the next round of realignment starts up as they near the end of their GOR.
Being number 3 is especially vital to ISU, because the number 4 league will eventually go the way of the Pac. If the B12 is the one that dies, we join WSU and Oregon State in the MWC. Simple as that. We have to be number 3 at any cost.
