Big 12 Conference Realignment

I just hate the idea that we’re not going to have every team at Hilton going forward. A season without Kansas and Purple Kansas and that child molester looking cowboy at home just feels empty.

If we’re going to have this many teams, we need divisions to keep home and homes with those traditional rivals.
That may be the cost of protecting the conference's viability on the major stage, though. "Watered down rivalries vs. Relegation" is hyperbolic, but not as much as it used to be

I take it you are assuming ISU would end up in the P5? We probably would, but I think it would be very close. A lot closer than most want to admit. We would definitely be on the bubble.
There is zero chance that Iowa State is left out of a 64 team P5. We were 24th in the latest 5 year football attendance rankings. The size and intensity of your fanbase matters more than ever in the streaming world. The TV producers also want packed stadiums because it greatly enhances the TV product. Check out some of the programs behind us.

For ***** sake, let's quit making basketball even harder. We have the undisputed hardest league by miles and don't need to add more top tier competition like Gonzaga and UConn that only make our down seasons more difficult (remember, we will still have ups and downs).

I still think he is wanting to tie the BigEast and Big12 together for a full-on basketball LEAGUE.

Think baseball - American and National Leagues. You'd have some pre-season tournaments, crossover games mid-season (UConn vs Kansas anyone?) as well as a monster conference tournament that would be like a distilled & concentrated March Madness. You're also adding a lot of east coast interest (and viewers) while still having some of the BigEast team that are actually in the midwest so the travel is less insane.

TONS of TV money and hype around a concept like this. This is the strategy to grow revenues (in bball) and achieve parity with the SEC and B1G (in football).

I, for one, want the best basketball teams we can get. The Big XII's current dominance is a relatively new thing, having only recently surpassed the ACC and Big East in the nation's eyes. Use this opportunity to poach the best brands available and make it nearly impossible for another conference to catch up.

Then give me 3 protected rivals to keep the regional feel alive. That, in my mind, is how you strike a happy medium.

I too will miss the double round-robin, but it's already dead regardless.

Might as well strengthen our hold as the undisputed #1 basketball conference.

Football drives the boat monetarily, and we'll be competitive there, but basketball prowess will be what makes this conference stand out from everybody else.

Adding Gonzaga is not without risk, but I get what he's trying to do from a business perspective.

Gonzaga won't be the Gonzaga as we know if if they come to the Big12.
A large part of me agrees with this.

There's also a large part of me that thinks Yormark has earned the right to have our trust on this.

I won't be disappointed either way.

I don't think that they need to be. Their brand is gigantic and it won't vanish anytime soon. Plus, if they come in and do poorly in conference play that only makes the conference look better. All that the Zags need to do if they join is play well in their non-con and win a tourney game or two to stay relevant on the national stage.

Is their brand really that gigantic?

No football team. Really really small campus. Not a national fanbase whatsoever.

Yes they've had a lot of success, but no Natty's. No record of success pre-Few. Not much chance of it post-few. Especially if they aren't in WCC anymore.

They may take a few lumps early, but they would be able to recruit a whole new tier of talent playing in a major conference. Creighton pulls in far better players than they did in the MVC. Few hanging it up will be Gonzaga's real turning point.

In any case, there's no upside to taking Gonzaga. Adding Basketball only members to a conference with a vanishing regional coherence just screams FBS football Big East Round 2. No thank you

I had friends who wore their gear (along with other nationally relevant MBB brands) regularly in high school in Wisconsin. Yes, they are.

Plus it's not like we'd give them a full share as a BB only member. If they demand full share, then I'm 110% opposed to it.

Maybe the Big 12 can form an alliance with Gonzaga . . . . . you know like the PAC, B1G and ACC unshakeable alliance.

Gonzaga makes more sense after adding the 4 corners schools.

17 teams, 20 conference games

4 double plays, 12 single plays.

They'll only do it if the money makes sense. There's no money for Oregon State or Washington State but Gonzaga would be far cheaper.

Doesn't sound too bad. But I wonder if we also add UConn for basketball only.

Gonzaga more than pays for themselves with NCAA units considering a reduced share. It makes too much sense not to do it.

Comparing adding Gonzaga to Wazzu/OSU is apples to Volkswagens.
