And West Virginia finished non-con 11-1 and solidly ranked before conference play as well so how is it you see them as overachieving? Whether your expectations were made preseason or pre conference play, basing awards because of a preconceived notion of what you expected a team to be is not how it should be done. I doubt Self wins COY for the exact reasons you have stated. It's just sad that that is how people vote for awards. Being expected to suck and then not sucking doesn't make you a great coach unless it is a massive turnaround with a severely depleted team. It usually just means people undervalued you because they either didn't put much thought into it or you had a bunch of unknowns on your team that they didn't know how much faith to put into them.
Agreed 100%. Morris, Hield, Niang and Ellis should be near unanimous 1st Team Big 12 players this season.
So it makes more sense to you to give it to Self who has the most talent year in and out yet only wins the conference by a game? Who's team lost at OSU, arguably the worst team in the league? Okay tuco, fap on homer
I understand that argument but isn't he the reason they have talent? Didn't he recruit them? And before you say "it's Kansas, they get those guys" so did Indiana, Ucla, Syracuse and Florida all in the last decade or two. Being consistently good isn't easy. I'd probably vote for Self this year because it's such a great conference if they win. If not I'd give it to the winner of the conference. Sure tubby has TT playing better, Huggins has done a great job, even texa$ is probably playing above expectations but I'd never punish the most successful, even if it was expected
What I'm saying is they did not perform as good as they should have. KU should have 2 conference losses total at this point but they don't. Half the fans were jumping ship 2-3 weeks ago and now think Self should get Best coach? I completely disagree
So your big problem with Self is that KU should have 1 less loss on the season in the #1 conference in the nation? That in order for Bill Self to win Big 12 COY that KU has to join Villanova as the only two Top 25 teams in the nation to not drop a single questionable game at any point in the season? Do you realize how insane that sounds?

According to your first post in this thread, KU has only 3 of the best 19 players in the conference, while OU and ISU each have 4. How do you reconcile this assessment with the opinion that KU has underachieved this year because they haven't won the conference by more games?

Depth and senior leadership. And where did I have 4? Honorable mention doesn't count as there was clearly plenty of players left off.
But to be fair, I said if KU won out, I would reconsider my opinion and watching teams like WVU lose to UT at home and OU's hiccup the last couple weeks, Self should certainly be considered.
It's interesting that once games play out and change the outcome predicted, people like you come on to inject your opinion.
Frank Mason is making a strong case as the year closes, while Morris has struggled a bit, at least by his high standards.
Monte Morris is a no brainer 1st Team All Big 12 player. I love Frank and he's been playing better lately but I but no problem saying that Morris is better than him, has performed better than him in Big 12 play and should be ahead of him on the 1st Team All Big 12 team. Morris, Hield, Ellis, Niang are pretty much a lock for 1st Team. Who they tack on as the fifth member I haven't put much thought into.
Morris hasn't struggled. He hasn't looked to score, and his assist to turnover might be less than superhuman.
After KU's loss @ISU, kenpom gave KU a TEN percent chance to win or share the Big 12 title based on 10,000 simulations. Oklahoma was first with a 70% chance, West Virginia was 2nd with a 30% chance and ISU was 3rd with a 12% chance. Self has done a masterful job getting KU back on track this year. I'm not in charge, but given what has happened in the past couple of weeks involving McKay/his suspensions and Burton's good play, that Coach Prohm will keep him on the bench to be our 6 man.
I am guessing that the only time that he could start again is on Senior night at Hilton against OSU.
