Best Rock Singer

I'd say:
1. Freddie Mercury
2. Steve Perry
3. Chris Cornell

I don't know if rock covers some of the rest, but pop would include them.

4. Cyndi Lauper
5. Dolores O'Riordan
6. Anne Wilson
7. Sting
8. Bono

HM

Sebastian Bach
Axyl Rose
Eddie Vedder
Tony Lewis (The Outfield)
Adele
Paul McCartney

Bach has next level vocals. He had a range that rivals Mariah Carey

Grace Slick and Janis Joplin practically created the female rock vocalist category. However, the greatest for me was Laura Nyro, albeit some may not call that rock.

I was thinking through great men of rock, and nothing stood out to me other than Frank Zappa. My interest in American rock is somewhat limited, however.

This thread went from best rock singer based on ability and morphed into favorite rock singer. Either way is fine. You guys have named a lot of good ones.

If it stayed that close to on topic it is doing better than most multipage CF threads :)

Amazing Singers Not Yet Mentioned
Kevin Cronin
Nate Ruess
Pink
Dave Pirner
Passenger
I would not consider Nate Ruess even close to Rock. Pink has a couple Rock songs. She does have a powerful voice though. REO speedwagon was the loudest concert I have ever been to back in the early 90's with Night Ranger.

Loudest was at Hilton and it was not a rock band.

Your taste in music is eclectic but on steroids.

My kids are now 29, 27 and 26. When they were young, I convinced them I was Jack Blades from Night Ranger and their mother was a groupie. It went on for some time until my oldest saw a “where are they now” show on VH1. Good memories…

That’s epic. Btw I am a metal freak. So I have seen every loud concert u can think of going to. For some reason night ranger and REO were super loud.

Freddie Mercury. End of discussion. There is no debate that the best combo of rock singer, frontman/woman, and showman. His control, range, timbre, energy, etc is not matched

Watch the Live Aid concert -- he's in complete control of >100,000 people. And holy shiite does that dude have range. Check out the end of Radio GaGa at about 09:30 in the video.

IMHO the best rock singer most of you have never heard of is Floor Jansen of Nightwish. They're a symphonic metal band from Finland. She has Mariah Carey range with way more power and versatility. Wacken Open Air 2013 is their legendary concert, and here's two of the best songs from that night.
