Baylor 2009

difference between baylor and ISU: neither traditionally that great but in a 9 win year ISU average = full stadium, baylor average = 75% full. In a 0 win season ISU average = full stadium, baylor average = 25% full. They are probably all out in their ski boats or at church.

To respond to the last few posters:
Yes we can go to theatres and watch rated R movies and drink beer and dance and go to clubs, ect. Baylor is not your stereotypical Baptist school by any means. But I do agree with the poster who indicated that most Baptists are a bit on the crazy side of things.

My assumptions about beating aggie and ISU are not just because we beat yall last year, it is because yall were the worst Big12 teams we played last year and looking at this year, I see our level of improvement as likely greater than either of yalls. With a new coach and the game in Ames, who knows what will happen. But I think we have a better coaching staff, 18 out of 22 starters returning, and we definitely out-recruited yall this year. I'm not at all offended by others disagreeing with my opinion, but I think my reasoning is logical.

Hard to argue with that logic.

i know i now have a headache

i have been to the south often. did you know that remarkably there is a plural of "y'all" (which is already plural)? It is "all y'all." Don't ask me how those good ol' boys know at what point there are enough people to go from y'all to all y'all, that is beyond my comprehension.

haha another i heard was jeete yet standing for did you eat yet

This clears it all up perfectly:

All y'all
Etymology: Intensive form of y'all
This usage states "you all" more emphatically. For example, saying "I know y'all," would mean that one knows a group of people; saying, "I know all y'all" would mean that one knows the members of the group

i will be shocked if baylor beats Tech and is that close to Texas... Texas is going to be really good next year

haha and you have to love the funny get you look when you ask for a pop

That one is really dependent on where you're at, too. Some places, every soda is a Coke. I like the data that was collected here. If you go in to the stats in depth, for Iowa, the seventh most common moniker is Large Farva... :biglaugh: I'm going with that from now on. And the conclusion of that site:

CONCLUSION

People who say "Pop" are much, much cooler.

I regret how I worded a lot of my last long post on the fun things at BU and the wealth of the school. I probably came across as a pompous a$$ and gave a negative impression of the school that definitely does not fit all students. Here's my response to some of yall's replies:

“These are all reasons why me and my friends hated Baylor. First off, your tailgate scene is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. No one cared, no one came, and the ones who did weren't friendly. Second, your fans were very chilly towards our general good intentions. You looked at us like aliens because we were dressed like we were going to a football game, not prom.

You aren't going to make points around here bragging about how you and your frat buddies were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Most of us come from middle class backgrounds, many from agricultural backgrounds were we've had to work our ***** off our entire lives. Most of us despise the old money elitist attitude which saturates the Baylor experience, and which your post accentuates.

If you want to earn points around here, keep making the generally level headed posts you've made in regards to sports, but you won't gain any level bragging about going out on the yacht with Biff and Muffin drinking champagne off of great-grandpa's trust fund, kappesh?”

1. Tail-gate scene: Yes, it flat out sucks. Old alcohol policies really put a damper on it and and even when a good people get out to tailgate (like our aggie game this year), everything is so spread out that the mood is destroyed. Typically my friends pre-game/grill at someone's home while watching other games and then drive to the stadium right before kickoff. (ya, i know this sounds lame but it's being honest)

2. The rude treatment from our fans somewhat surprises me. Other than possibly the aggie game, I've always heard that our fans are very gracious to visitors. There is the uper-crust portion of the school where some individuals might have a "better than thou" mentality. I really do not believe it's the majority.

3. My comments on Baylor's affluence were not meant to say we are better than the state schools. Just stating that as a large portion of our student population is from a very wealthy upbringing, it creates a lot of fun opportunities that might not exist at other schools. I was only making this point because of the way some acted like we were just a bunch of boring baptists. In no way did I mean to degrade ISU or any school where more students are from working class homes, as I am definitely from the middle class.

“I wish I had your friends, haha.

there's is a rich sect at baylor, but it is not much different than any other school. the 'average' student does not live in a nice house, not even close. the greek system is only about 20% of students.

I worked all the way through school, lived in some shiity places and made due. you're painting a horribly arrogant picture of the student body only furthering the unwarranted stereotypes towards Baylor.

I do wish the tailgating scene was better, problem is alcohol is banned on campus property which puts a damper on most tailgates. Most people would pre-game elsewhere besides the parking lot, sucking at football didn't help anything either. The policy has become more of a 'pour it in a cup and we don't care' attitude, which has led to a bit of a revival, but it will take a while to get anywhere near respectable.”

--I showed ignorance in my post. While I think you are exagerating the #s of lower income students, there are definitely many at our school. I am definitely not from an uppercrust family. Although most of my friends have multiple houses and all the perks, I'm from a regular middle class town. But from my experience, most of the people I've encountered have been from a far wealthier upbringing. I know that close to a quarter of our school receives no aid whatsoever. Meaning they aren't smart enough to get enough the basic scholarships that 75% of our school receives in some form, and qualify for no financial aid. This group's parents are forking out $40,000 a year.

--Our attendance blows and we know it, but it was much better back in the 80s/early 90s when we were winning. Additionally as a small school, we have a small alumni base and a student population that is less than half the size of most of the Big12. This last season we had near 80% of our student body show up to 4 games, pretty impressive. Unfortunately that comes out to less than 10,000 students because we are so small.

Had to look it up (here) and while our ~90% average attendance was better than Baylor's ~69%, we're still not hitting the 100% full-house... And I will not rest until we do!!!

It was less straight up rude than it was just alloof, and condescending. Most other Big 12 schools I've been to, the fans were interested in talking football before the game and such. At Baylor, the few fans there were out tailgating wanted nothing to do with us at all, and there were actually more Iowa State fans around, it seemed. It's just so different in so many ways than what we were used to that it was hard to wrap our heads around.

If you get the chance, come to a game in Ames. The pre-game atmosphere will blow you away. Despite our lack of success, we have a great fan base that loves to party. Public lots open 6 hrs prior to the game, and there is usually a 1/4 mile long line by then to get in. When Texas came up in '07, I talked to quite a few Longhorn fans who were blown away with the scene. Most of our fans will be pretty nice, and offer brew and football chatter. You're not a Hawk or Husker, so you're not on the **** list.

I find this whole thing funny. I don't think that Texas or Oklahoma talk about whether they are going to win their first conference game on March 5th, so that shows where both of our programs are currently.

We have no idea how our new coaching staff is going to perform with our current players. We have some good potential offense, but or defense is horrible, so hopefully we can fix some of that.

With that being said, I wouldn't say baylor is a shoe in to beat us either, since we are at home. We usually play a lot better at home, but I thought we had a chance against Nebraska before the game last year and they definitely proved me wrong.

So my prediction is a tie, ( which usually doesn't go well for us), but by some miracle we kick a field goal to win in OT, because I am an ISU fan and how sad would it be to predict a loss 226 days before the game even begins

If we counted attendance by physical seats (which we did for years) we'd have averaged 110% capacity or so for a few years now...
