Barnes to Hawaii

Seriously? We would have lost that game by 10 without Brackins.

You have really sold out to the JP / Greg 'it's all the players' fault' mentality haven't you?

You need to take a deep breath Snowcraig. It was a joke. But do you not remember CB fouling the guy at half court with a couple seconds left to lose the game.

Is it fair to blame that loss on CB? No
Is it fari to blame that loss on GM? No

Plus Brackins 10 points and 5 rebounds wasn't really a huge game out of him....you are thinking of DG when he dropped 26 on Hawaii

When exactly is it okay to blame a lose on the head coach? I would say being in a close game with a terrible WAC team in the first place falls on the coach. That's just me though.

FYI, your avatar makes me happy.

Look, I'm of the opinion now that everything that is wrong with the program leads back to McDermott, but I'm also not in such a blind rage over it that I'm not of the opinion that the players don't share some of the players don't share some of the blame in this. Yeah, they could have been coached better, but they also should have a mind of their own to know that taking 25 foot jumpers are probably a bad idea when they're ice cold from the three point line, especially with plenty of time left on the shot clock. And Brackins' degradation in draft status is more his own doing. Is it anyone else's fault he was taking ill-advised jumpers, not aggressively going for rebounds, and clanging layups and baby hooks off the front of the rim?

Like I said, McDermott has been a failure of a coach - but it's not the 100% excuse for poor performance of players that some people want to make it out to be.

I'm always ok with him taking the blame as he gets paid to. It just doesn't make much sense to blame him for our best player fouling a guy with 2 seconds left 40 feet from the hoop.

The problem with that team was we had zero talent besides Brackins. Nobody else was a Big 12 player that year. So it isn't surprising that we would struggle to beat Hawaii in Hawaii. And THAT is on the coach. Blame the season, not the game IMO

Didn't you just say DG dropped 26 on them? He wasn't a Big 12 player that year?

I agree though, talent was lacking on that team. However, there was more than enough talent to easily put away that Hawaii team.

This one does not bother me. I was never excited about Bo for whatever reason..just a guy feel.

We need bodies, but I think this is not a bad thing.

Gotta agree here...don't ge me wrong. Losing a recruit to Hawaii is like a kick to the jewels but really, is anybody really that upset to lose this kid? Seemed like another project to me.

Easily? We were playing a couple thousand miles away from home and starting two walk ons. I agree we should have won that game but there wasn't anybody that we were going to easily beat with the talent we had that year. Every game was a dogfight

There is a difference between having talent and having two huge black holes on the floor. Nothing against Gilstrap and Craig, but man did they like to shoot. It got to be frustrating how many time Gilstrap got called for charging because the defender was there 4-5 seconds before him and he still just tried to jump over him.

Problem is if GMAC would've pulled either of them, people would've been calling for his head. He was in a no-win situation with the fans.

You assume that at this point in time anyone that we get won't be a bigger project, if they even qualify for that label at all. We're not in a position where we can willy-nilly turn nose-up at recruits because they're "another project" - having only 6 scholarship players means you lose the right to be picky.

Why is it ok for people to rag on a recruit saying he isn't good enough once he doesn't pick ISU? The same people are sitting there telling us that message boards matter.. that recruits take this to heart. If you want to apply the theory that it matters, who's to say Barnes won't read this and tell a buddy of his from the next class that ISU fans are jerks?

If I think a guy sucks at 3 point shooting, I will say it regardless if he is an ISU commit or not.

You are soooo right.

That says a lot about he decision making ability of this staff to offer kids like this scholarships to play Big 12 basketball.

Recruiting a guy is one thing. Offering is another. We make some of the worst offering decisions ever.

You are right. "Iowa State" should not lose to Hawaii.

But, that specific team was no shocker to lose to them. It was not that big of an upset.
