Barnes to announce on ESPNU

With how often he uses our practice facilities, I will be pretty disappointed (not meltdown wise) if he doesn't pick ISU. Not that it's necessarily a sign that he's coming to ISU and I was expecting something that didn't happen, but because I'll feel like we were used big time.

Who is using who? HB gets to use or facilities but our guys get to play against one of the best young players in the country. Fair trade if you ask me.

I think the issue of HB "using" ISU is waaaay overstated. Ames is such a small town, most young people who grow up in Ames "use" Iowa State facilities/ faculty/ seminars/special events, etc. all the time. With the exception of the just opened practice facility, can't you just walk in the door to most ISU buildings?

If you took the top 10% of the ames high graduating class (what is the class size these days...300?) I'd be shocked if more than 15 (50%) go on to ISU....

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you meant 150. For a comparison, I graduated Cedar Falls High with 165, and nearly 60% went to Northern Iowa, which is only a little above average.

Just my .02

Supposed basketball "experts" have said that Harrison is a great player and a smart guy. They've also said that great players and smart guys play at Duke, UNC, KU, etc. instead of ISU. Harrison is a smart guy so he is testing these experts by checking all these schools for three things:
1. Coaching,
2. Competition, and
3. Confidence.

Firstly coaching. The fact that the real basketball pros thought that Brackins would benefit from one more year of ISU coaching puts us in the game although not sufficient. We may not have the best track record for coaching but the pros didn't tell Greg to not waste his time so the coaching must be good enough.

Secondly competition. Harrison would want good competition both in game and practice situations. The Big 12 provides sufficient game competition and our practice room has improved significantly. Hearing of the Harrison and Marquez head-to-head match-ups helps a lot.

Thirdly confidence. People, especially young athletes have dreams. I don't know for sure what dreams Harrison had growing up but I think they involved winning championships in an ISU jersey. Now the remaining question is whether Harrison has the confidence to live out his dream or will he fulfill the dreams of the fans of Duke, UNC, KU, et al. Harrison has demonstrated that he readily accepts challenges. Here is a challenge where he can demonstrate again his skills and determination while also re-living his playgound dreams.

I want to think that we are close to any competition because I think Harrison has always liked ISU. He needs only evidence of sufficient coaching and competition plus his own confidence to live out that dream.

I think Harrison shows a lot of confidence in himself wherever he goes, for there will be tons of pressure on someone with his notoriety.
Which coach HB trusts the most for his further development determines where he goes, IMO.

I'll be looking forward to this like I was looking forward to the Greenbay Mini game - I'll just be happy when it's over so we don't have to hear about it any more! Bring on the 12th!

There is only one big 12 school, ISU. Going to Kansas would be a slap in the face to our Coaching staff both personnaly and professionaly. That leave distance or the stud factor of playing at Duke or NC. His mom would not be able to see all the games being nplayed out east. I think given all the factors ISUl looks good.

I've been thinking about this for a few weeks now, but hilton has got to be rock'n on friday for us to have a chance, if you have kept up with his highschoolhoops diary, it seemed like unc had a good visit, OU decent, KU was mostly about bill selfs house-so i think they are prty much out, and duke had a really good visit, in my mind duke is in the lead and has a very legit chance of getting him. However growing up in ames he had to have dreampt of hilton magic rockin with him hitting the game winner for the big 12 championship. that being said we need to out due the camron crazies effort to impress him and get the magic back, its our own fualt if we loose him if we dont give it our best shot on his visit to ames. Even if he thinks his mind is narrowed down, we can still put a wisper in the back of his head. The reason for him taking an unofficial visit to isu is because he grew up here, he knows all there is to know about isu, and still, being the wise kid that he is, wanted to take full advantage of all five official vists that he could. In my mind the reason he is allowed to use our PF is because we are from iowa.... we are generally nice people, and from what our players have said, mcD is a very nice guy and would want nothing but the best for harrison (his sons team mate). Does anybody know if he will be releasing a diary of the isu visit? ino its not an official visit, but it would deffinately be an apropriate way for him to at least give us a shout out. once again, lets get creative on friday and get HB's attention. Cyclone alley its your time to start to rekindle the magic to hilton. Start thinking of chants for him and get them on here early, mabe time marks so that you can get everybody in on it, so its rocking, and not lame where only 1/3 of the ppl know whats going on before its over.
