Great news! Hopefully, he can stick!
Here is a recent local Maine article on him. This may have been posted before, but if so deserves repeating here:
Red Claws count on Babb to keep order on the court | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram
"A very educated basketball player." Hmm, I wonder who his teacher was?
3 Hoiballers on NBA rosters right now.
What is a 10 day contract worth for a rookie?
I believe around $27,200.
10 days is 1/18th of the 180-day season. Rookie minimum is $490,180. 1/18th of $490,180 is $27,232.
I could be wrong on the number of days in an NBA season for salary purposes, though. I read somewhere else the number is 170, which would make a rookie minimum 10 day contract worth $28,834. Either way, not too shabby.
I'd have to look it up to be sure (/lazy), but that 10-day contract might be worth just about as much as an entire typical DL contract.
Salaries remain flat: $25,500, $19,000 and $13,000 for the league's three player classifications. Which means D-League players are virtually playing for free -- and a modest per diem on the road of $40 compared to $120 in the NBA -- although they do receive housing and insurance benefits. It was also brought to my attention this week that the D-League quietly does have a per-team salary cap of $178,000 ... with a dollar-for-dollar luxury tax, just like in the NBA, for teams that go over that amount.
It's official:

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed guard Chris Babb to a 10-day contract: http://on.nba.com/1fOwTrY
I'm assuming you want Babb to tear it up by "doing very well," rather than rip up the contract, right?:smile:Tear it up!
