Why #52?
Well, Celtics #2 is retired in honor of Red Auerbach being the 2nd most significant person in franchise history, behind the first owner Walter Brown. Other than that....maybe was the only number with a 2 available? 22 and 32 are also retired, and 12 is in use. Just a guess.

My guess, as Babb likes #2: The five is an upside-down 2 and he added a 2 for full effect. (Ha)
Lets him play a few games and then they decide what to do based on his performance with the team in game and in practice. If they decide to keep him around for the rest of the season, great! If not, he'll still have a chance to make it with the Celtics, or another team for that matter.
