ANOTHER Lipsey thread?! Sure!

Hunter was a great complimentary defender - but he’s shown he isn’t a great defender on his own, it required elite team defense. Likewise, he’s shown that he’s not Stephon and going to put up 5 threes per game every night. He’ll have good scoring nights and above average defense, but he’s not elite.

Tamin, in my opinion, is a much better true PG. Much better court vision, better reads, and crisper passes, along with a very consistent level of energy and attitude. Rarely is a PG a big time scorer, and he’s not at this point, but he has missed fewer bunnies in half a season than I think Hunter missed in a couple single games last year.

Tamin has been awesome this year. Exceeding my expectations thus far. I thought he was pressing a little tonight on offense. His stat line was good but a couple of his TO’s were uncharacteristicly bad. But in the end we won so doesn’t matter.

Texas overpaid, but what else is new

Seeing Tamin get both a steal and block on Hunter was cathartic. Lipsey is just everything we could have asked for and more.
If someone was watching our games with no knowledge of him, they would think he is an upper classman. I was excited to see what he could do, but he has exceeded all reasonable expectations.

Plus his name is Tamin which is cool.

Exactly.

My wife tonight after seeing the stuff about Tyrese having siblings and parents dying said "maybe him going for money wasn't bad" and I shared it wasn't...if that's why he did it...but I shared one could argue another year with TJ could have been a bigger amount of money long run
True, however Hunter himself said he wasn't getting paid iirc. If he went there to get paid it's probably a good financial choice but just own up to it. (Yes I'm transferring to Tex@$$. I'm excited for the next chapter to my career. I've got an NIL deal and I'm thankful for all ISU has done for me). That's all it would've taken but he said he isn't getting paid so it makes his decision much more baffling.

I don't blame him. There's still a stigma involved with getting paid as a college player. We all know he did, but he's not going to say it.

I agree at this point that Tamin is a better fit and true point guard, but I think the bolded statement on Tyrese's defense is off. Hunter played excellent defense on Lipsey tonight, both off ball and on ball. His steals are down this year, which is probably because Texas as a whole isn't as good defensively, meaning that teams just stay away from Tyrese. That's what we did quite a bit tonight, with Tamin often just letting Holmes bring the ball up and Tamin largely staying away from the ball. You can't really build a great defense around a single great perimeter defender like you can a rim protector.

Lipsey is more fundamentally sound.

He couldn't get going tonight but found other ways to really impact the game because of that.

I'm pretty sure it was Tamin that had a couple of WTF passes, but that's part of being a freshman point guard in a strong conference. He'll learn from them.

I did share that too (that it was not being honest, etc). I think basketball and the NIL will continue to be something to watch in terms of coaches having to "re recruit" their own guys. Indo, however, feel better about having a guy like TJ as the culture he is building (and it sounds like he is very direct/honest with kids about their role)....but doesn't mean a young man won't be tempted by the idea of being paid/having a different role on another team

Coach pulled Hunter and he just wasn’t the same after. Almost looked like he was pouting. I thought he was locked in the way he started. Under control and shooting well. Then just completely disappeared.
I think TJ takes a similar approach to what Heacock does in football. They put out their basic, no gimmick defense - playing hard but everything straight up. THEN the switch is thrown and it is lights out. ISU held the best offensive team (statistically) in the Big XII to two 5 min+ stretches without a bucket. They were all pouting, especially the coach.

I could be wrong, but there were several times in the game where it looked like we opened up in a zone and then switched to man once UT got into their motion, and I think it screwed them up.
