ANOTHER Lipsey thread?! Sure!

I could be wrong, but there were several times in the game where it looked like we opened up in a zone and then switched to man once UT got into their motion, and I think it screwed them up.
There was and I am no bball guru but I have not seen that before, at least played that way. It has to be quite a maneuver for players to make sure they have their assignment through all of that. All I know is I liked how it made Carr and Hunter want to cry trying to work against it.

It would be difficult, because I think they see the zone look, get arranged for a zone play, and then all of a sudden they're back to looking at man defense.

Saw this a bit late in the KU game as well. Created a lot of issues in the front court for opposing teams. essentially lets us switch everything up front for the first 15-20 seconds of shot clock, then everyone man's up quick for the end of the clock. Phenomenal defense imo.

Looking pretty smart now! I'm not saying Hunter isn't good...at all. I just think Lipsey fits this team better overall than Hunter does.
I think Hunter was better in his "I might have to do it, take charge mode". I don't think Carr is the best for his potential at this point. I think you have to see what he does next season before labeling him. Afterall, this was his first time back in Hilton, he's on a new team with experienced guards, he lost his head coach that recruited him there, etc.
Still like Tyrese, but yes, would not trade Lipsey at all.
Even tho they are both point guards they are so different, imo. If Tamin ever gets an outside shot, too, oh boy.

Kind of odd making this on the heels of Lipsey having a somewhat shaky game (lots of questionable passes that were almost turnovers) by his standards. But yes, he is good and a better player than Hunter. He definitely has a much stronger will on the court. After the 10 minute mark Hunter and his teams folded like chairs. Lipsey (and this team) never fold.

I think Tamin can shoot 3 pointer as good as Hunter. He is not doing it because it is not his strength. Lipsey shot 0.7 3 pointer per game thus far while Hunter shot 4.5 3 pointers per game. If Tamin shoots 4.5 3 pointers per game, he will average about same points per game as Hunter, but it won’t be good for this team.

Again I wouldn't trade Lipsey...but I disagree. Hunter has shot 4-6, 3-6 a few times already on 3's. While I agree with you that it isn't whats best for Lipsey to take 3's right now for the good of this team, I don't think he's as good as Hunter on mid-range or 3's. But it will come.

Tyrese made a mistake in choosing his role at his new destination and it's probably going to cost him a shot at being drafted unless he's able to improve dramatically next year (wherever he might be playing).

He seems to really have leaned into playing next to Marcus Carr but in doing so, chose to be an undersized shooting guard who is a below average shooter. Marcus Carr is super talented but isn't the type of point guard who makes those around him better. It's real feast or famine with his constant dribbling and erratic shots. @JStanz51 talked about this a lot on his podcast with Jbo actually.

Tyrese's assist numbers have really suffered playing alongside Carr and his shooting splits haven't really improved. He doesn't have the excuse of playing in a bad offense anymore either. He has the worst offensive rating on the team among regulars.

Hunter is welcome to transfer back and back up lipsey. Maybe Tamin can teach him some things.
While I would not want Hunter back at this point as I do not believe his is fit for the team culture, purely based upon basketball skills it would have been awesome to have both.

I think Lipsey's talent would have forced him into the lineup but how cool would have it been to have two outstanding PGs? (I am thinking Monte Morris forcing his way into the lineup with DeAndre Kane on the roster).

They are two totally different players. Hunter is more for mid to long range but didn't have good touch close to the rim. Lipsey doesn't have good longer range shooting ability but finishes at the rim very well. Lipsey is also a better facilitator and has better ball control/security. The comparison really is apples to oranges. Lipsey has also benefitted from the progression of Grill and Kalschuer and Holmes seems like more of a 3 point shooter than Brockington was. Had Hunter stuck around he wouldn't of had to be as much of a volume offensive threat. However I don't think he wants to be less of an offensive threat. Personally I prefer Lipsey's style and skills to run point but that's just one armchair coaches opinion.

What's going to cost Hunter a shot at being drafted is the fact he's not a good enough basketball player to play in the NBA. Why do you think he went to get paid now?

Kind of a dangerous statement to make. Do you think he got Big12 FOY on luck? Like many have said, a full season next year without Carr may tell alot more.

Coaching. I love hearing about examples of TJ making good coaching decisions. He is improving as a coach as well.

Their game against TTU he was on the bench down the stretch as they closed out the game. He’s had some nice games for ISU and UT, but he isn’t consistently good.
Coaching is lacking at Texas now that Beard got Fired!
