All-Century Team

he was stil my fav player all the years he was here

Yeah, he was the 2nd coming of Kenny Pratt. Not off the court though! :biggrin9gp: Tough down low. SJ was a favorite of mine too. Then to top it off, he joins the football team! Great guy.

Arggh! I missed Ron Harris! If he misses by one vote it's my fault. I think I voted for Hornacek, Ivy, Stevens, Willoughby, Utoff (sp?), Thigpen, and Victor. I probably would have replaced Thigpen with Ron Harris had I thought of it.

Shouldn't Hornacek be one of the quaranteed spots because he has his number retired?

Here is the answer to our question from cyclones.com....

A total of 15 former greats will comprise the All-Century Team. Eight spots will be automatically occupied by ISU’s All-Americans. Fans will vote for the remaining seven spots from the ballot of 44 former Cyclones that met one of the following criteria: first-team all-conference, 1,000-point career scorer or played in the NBA.

I had figured that having your jersey retired would have done it as well, but I guess not.

First time I watched Jake Sullivan play in person, he pulled up on a fast break and cranked one from just inside half court. I remember because his foot was on the "Hilton Coliseum" writing that went across the floor. The entire crowd groaned when he shot it and when the ball barely hit the net on the way through, I knew that guy was going to be a stud.

i remember he was a floor slapper on D.. dont see that 2 much any more

No love for Jake Sullivan. That guy did more with less than anybody who has ever worn an ISU uniform. Well, maybe him and hornacek

No way Sullivan should be on this list. He was on good teams and terrible teams. The only time he did anything good was when he was with Tinsley and he took all the pressure off. After that he thought he had to win the games and was terrible. Horrible at creating his own shot, but was determined to do it. terrible at D but always tried to guard the best player.

Don't get me wrong, great character and role model, but not all century material. There are just better players out there. Guys like Willoughby, Hornacek and Cato who carried the team to victories while being touted as "one of the best on the team" should get the recognition.

Ask any coach in the conference. Jake was their #1 priority on defense. Give the kid an inch and he would make you pay. The problem was, we couldn't give him that inch with the quality of our team. In turn, he needed to try and create even though it was not his style of play. We had no other options.

As for his D, it was subpar but he improved on it every year.

Jake was good and all, but for pure 3 point shooters, Willoughby blows everyone away, and Stevens would too if they would have had the 3 point shot when he played. They were also better defenders. Those 2 were so much better than Jake. He deserves some love, but not on the All-Century team.

No, I miss a guy like Ron Bayless, who would be another good write-in vote. Jacy was consistent and didn't turn the ball over though.

I do miss Jacy not having anyone guarding him, but he still wouldn't put up a three. I believe he did nail one against Kansas though.

All right, i'll start the first controversy. When was Fred Hoiberg an all-American? Or maybe the better question is: what constitutes being an all-American?

I don't believe he was first, second, or third-team all-American via AP in his final season. He might have been on the honorable mention list, but that's a pretty long list...at least 50 players, on top of the 15 that make 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team all-American.

Grayer, i remember, was 2nd team all-American his senior year, as was Jamaal Tinsley. The only player on the list that i know for certain was a 1st team all-American was Marcus Fizer.

Can someone explain the criteria for being all-American?

How about Lafester Rhodes he not only had probably the greastest game of any cyclone but also a great season that year.

No, that was Sam Mack who later transferred to Arizona St. and got in trouble there too.
