Aidan Ralph arrested

Relying on an account from a media source is laughable at best. The media has lost all credibility IMO.
By his supposed admission of guilt, he must have been out of control. From the description there must be a preponderance of evidence.
I served on a jury and I was amazed how the newspaper report didn't seem like it was the same trial I sat in on. We had an unbelievably diverse jury.
If he's guilty, let him suffer the consequences.
I am surprised someone on here hasn't looked at official reports

I once had (fill in the blank experience); therefore, all experiences are like this. Anyone reporting otherwise cannot be trusted.

The internet in a nutshell.

I am assuming that none of the real lawyers on CF have weighed in here because their heads exploded before they could finish reading the thread.

“The media,” who are deserving of all scorn heaped in their general direction, are merely citing the police report. This is, of course, a one-sided document, and should be taken as such. That said, there appear to be some, um, bad facts, specifically the part where Aidan admitted guilt to pushing/injuring the complainant. But I thought Chris Beard would probably not get off, and would certainly not be back to coaching immediately, so we shall see.

The bar for getting kicked out of school is much lower than criminal conviction. I somehow managed to avoid intimate knowledge with the Student Code of Conduct and the related timelines, but, based on what has been reported, I suspect that Aidan is done at Iowa State.

The court of public opinion has no presumption of innocence, which can be good or bad, since many of the jurors seem to be morons. Proceed with caution.

Miller and Condon were asking a moment ago if Ralph participated in Spring ball and how bad that looks if he did. Anyone know if he did?

Maybe they should find out the answer to the question first before talking about hypothetical “bad looks.” Lazy hacks.

Not even sure why they need to waste any more time and just boot him off the team now. They surely have a code of conduct or something they can cite as a reason and there is enough there to say he hasn't met those standards. Not worth falling on a sword for a guy that hasn't seen any game action and if the allegations hold up to be even remotely true I wouldn't care if it was the best player on the team we don't need people like that in this program and the program is bigger than any single player.

Just a bad look in general right now to be associated with this story. Even if it was just the domestic assault part I'd still want nothing to do with this guy any longer as I have zero tolerance for any kind of violence against women.

why do we think he's still on the team?

From a football perspective, doesn't look like he factored in much in the past or would have in the future. 3rd year in the program and yet to record a stat. Also only 220 pounds as a LB, had he just been skipping weight training?

That’s last year’s weight. Guessing he was dinged up last year.

And he made a couple plays in the Spring “game”, but that’s pretty irrelevant now.

It does raise the issue why he was even allowed to participate in the spring game. Was Iowa State not aware of the issue, waiting to see if he’d be charged, or waiting for the news to break? None of those are good options

Especially because iowa state most likely could kick him off the team and say that if he was completely exonerated he could reapply.

I suppose Iowa State could say that they want to wait to see what facts come to light during the trial before making their decision, but they run a risk of not being able to show that they take this seriously. Because if he’s found guilty it’s not really iowa state’s call if he remains on the team. He’s going to go to prison.

Are Miller and Condon accusing the staff of covering this up? Acting like the staff should have held him out of spring ball is ludicrous unless you are saying they knew of it before May 2nd, when the criminal complaint was actually lodged.

Why are they not “good options”? He wasn’t charged until after the Spring game. I can’t see Ames police calling up Jamie and saying, “You know those allegations from last December? We decided there’s substance to them”.

Either that or it wasn’t even reported right away. Given what evidence there appears to be, I can’t see why the POLICE waited to file formal charges. I’d think that a complaint and X-rays would have been more than sufficient for an arrest.

Knowing how Campbell and the program he runs operates, he probably isn’t going to just tell Ralph to pack his bags and get lost. Matt and co. will probably do what they can to help him in the way he needs help, make sure he’s got the tools to be stable enough once the dust settles, then send him in his way.

I believe, Campbell has a duty to be a coach and fatherly figure to the men in his program, and when these 17-18 year old kids leave their families to join the ISU family, Matt feels an obligation to set them up for success in life after college, in good or bad situations, and he wouldn’t be fulfilling his end of the deal (to the best he could given the circumstances) if he told Ralph to take a hike, I want nothing to do with you.
