Aidan Ralph arrested

Knowing how Campbell and the program he runs operates, he probably isn’t going to just tell Ralph to pack his bags and get lost. Matt and co. will probably do what they can to help him in the way he needs help, make sure he’s got the tools to be stable enough once the dust settles, then send him in his way.

I believe, Campbell has a duty to be a coach and fatherly figure to the men in his program, and when these 17-18 year old kids leave their families to join the ISU family, Matt feels an obligation to set them up for success in life after college, in good or bad situations, and he wouldn’t be fulfilling his end of the deal (to the best he could given the circumstances) if he told Ralph to take a hike, I want nothing to do with you.

Double digit sources?

Completely disagree. If these allegations are even remotely true Ralph broke his end of the deal and Campbell owes him nothing. Maybe the team could give him the private Pile bar of soap in the sock treatment day after day for all eternity. That'd be a good start.

I wonder if the slow play, if you will of releasing this guy is: 1) Campbell et al didn’t know about it until the arrest yesterday. It is possible the girl didn’t file charges until very recently. I don’t think that is likely but perhaps possible, or 2) University lawyers stepped in, assuming here Campbell did know since December, and advised him to do nothing until the PD arrest him. I am leaning towards the latter. Why? I know people on campus who have worked with ISU legal counsel and they have a reputation of being cautious. Perhaps overly so, but are very risk adverse, so if Campbell kicked him off the team in December before an arrest and whatnot maybe ISU lawyers saw a potential for legal response from this guy if charges were dropped.

Campbell/staff almost certainly knew before yesterday. I think #2 is probably right. I’d suspect there’s a formal policy in place for kicking players off the team to prevent/mitigate lawsuits. This staff has shown very little patience for nonsense, and it’s not like Ralph was an important piece for next season.

Exactly. Royce Hooks and Brett Nash were kicked off the team a number of years ago and then it came out the girl made it all up.

I expect Campbell will be visiting him regularly in prison and sending him care packages every week. When Ralph is finally released from prison 10 years from now, Campbell will be waiting outside the prison in a dusty el Camino with a grin on his face. The two will share a long embrace and then Campbell will say “let’s hit the road champ” and they will drive off together to help aiden build his new life.

The timing seems very similar to the timing with Xavier Foster. He was in twitter videos put out by the basketball team right before his news came out.

Campbell's sole duty is to win football games for Iowa State University.

Irreverent to the Ralph case, but relevant to my comment on how we shouldn't "cancel" people based on an article before the actual facts come out. I'm glad Yahoo decided to do a follow up article on the case and the progression of the investigation.

Is it a fact that ye admitted to the assault?

Again, it’s irrelevant to even bring that up since that’s not happening in Ralph’s case.

Yeah, no..that’s not how Campbell runs his program. The kid made a life altering mistake, Campbell will help him how he can and deny him on his way. We’ve seen him do this before with other guys in the past, albeit their situations weren’t as severe as this, but he still wants them to succeed in life if possible
Campbell's a super busy guy, with finite time and unlimited needs of good people in his program and community that would benefit from his mentoring.

The minute he had knowledge that Ralph admitted to police that he committed domestic violence that should be the end of it. Campbell should tell the POS to pack his bags and go spend his limited discretionary time helping someone that isn't garbage.

I find it hard to believe that allowing an ADMITTED woman beater and alleged rapist continue to participate in ISU activities is the legally risk-averse course of action. He admitted to police in December that he injured the woman. I'm curious when Campbell and ISU legal became aware of that.
