Abdelmassih to UConn?

Probably won't ever play much is my opinion. Why? Because after this year he will be playing behind Naz, Morris, Thomas, and Dorsey-Walker. I see him basically putting in Sledge minutes this year, and Railey minutes his Sophomore year.

You are a cubs fans so nobody cares.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what exactly are you basing this off? Naz and Monte play completely different positions, so that's not even relevant.

SDW and Thomas have played exactly ZERO college games. In fact, Thomas hasn't even played his senior year of HS ball. SDW didn't exactly light the world on fire during the Cap City League. By all accounts, Okoro is a completely different player than SDW. Okoro is physically bigger, and it sounds like he could be an excellent defender.

I don't have any clue as to how many minutes these guys will all get relative to one another, but neither do you. SDW, Okoro and Thomas are complete unknowns at this point.

Naz and Monte play different positions, but Monte will move to SG if Naz is PG if the two are in the game. Or the other way around, whoever Fred wants as PG. If you don't think Thomas is going to come in here and get more time than Okoro or SDW, your crazy. SDW, from what I know from people inside the program, is quick and a great shooter. This is a team that relies on speed up and down the court and overall quick play. In some programs, Okoro would play over SDW, but the way we play, I think SDW plays over Okoro.

Would he want to step into a situation that includes probation?

Even if he does, is there an assistant available that could help us land some of the bigger targets (such as the MN ones) in the Midwest?

Ollie only has a one-year contract. I'm sure that might play a big role for any assistant going to UCONN.

Lots of talk about his NE connections, but what about the recruiting he has been doing in MN? Would really like to keep him around through the loaded 2014 class.

This. I've read in a couple places that the next couple of classes out of MN are supposed to be some of the best they've had overall. Yes the Royce situation was unique, and there was some luck involved, but Matt brought him in. Even just by association that should help tip the scales in our favor for some kids.

Although, if he thinks it's a better situation, I hope it works out for him.

I agree we don't want to lose him, but lets be honest the UCONN program is more sexy and appealing than the ISU program, and probably a faster way to get an HC job someday.

No way is uconn more sexy and appealing than ISU! We beat them, remember? Eliminated them. And what's more, we have Fred!

I like the depth of our team, espcially as we see how Fred uses the last open schollies in our next couple of classes. I have not seen Okoro beyond very limited video. What I hear is that he has a Big XII ready body and is a defensive stopper, thus the type of guy that could play a Babb type role. Seems to me both SDW and Matt Thomas are being brought on as scroing SG, with Naz and MM being the PGs. I see Okoro plugging not only into that rotation, but also sliding into the wing as well.

For every one that is worried about him leaving now read the first sentence again. It says if he is eventually able to land the full time job he would look at Matt for the job. Don't have to worry for at least a year

I don't know if I agree with this. Who is the better shooter, Babb or McGee? Probably McGee. Who is the better, more phyical defender, Babb or McGee? Probably Babb. Who is the starter?

I think Fred knows the value of a tough, lock-down defensive player.

Have not read the whole thread, but one thing that might be in ISU's favor is that the new coach was only given a contract for less than one year. It expires next April, unless he proves himself, and gets it extended. That is not a very appealing situation for someone to walk into, especially since UCONN is out of post-season play this next year.

I don't know that is worth getting all worried about. I'd like to keep Matt, but I'd rather keep TJ (who we are probably still lucky to have around) and Mann.

The one good thing is that while Matt may be our guy in the east and in Minnesota, Hoiberg plays a pretty big role as a recruiter. It seems as though our biggest targets (Thomas, Niang) have pretty equal relationships with their lead recruiter and Hoiberg.

If one of our guys were to leave, I don't think it would hurt us too bad with the Minnesota kids.

Make no mistake, Matt is every bit as important or more so as a recruiter than anyone on the staff, sans Hoiberg. He is young and really relates to the kids. There is a reason CFH brought a 26 year old to Ames with him.

Matt seems to get his foot in the door with a lot of kids we really shouldn't, starting with Royce (of course) and ending with Terrell/ Whitehead/ McCullough, etc. outside of White, he hasn't really come through in a huge way (with a HS kid) but he's young and shows a lot of promise (I think... To an amateur/ outsider... ).

I doubt Matt picks up and leaves this year, based on Ollie's contract situation. If Ollie has a good year, gets a multi-year deal, I could see worrying.

In the end, you want your assistants being pulled on. That's a sign that the head coach is hiring great young coaching prospects. Fred will then just hire the next up-and-comer. I believe more than anything in his ability to attract good people.

As for Vaughn (or other MN kids), he knows by know that he's ultimately going to play in Fred's system, not Matt's.
