A Crane has arrived!!

The question everyone keeps asking is how much does the top truss weigh and what is the erection plan entail (# cranes, size of cranes, location etc.)

I believe two cranes: 550T & a 600T. Total pick around 170T +/-. One on each side. Haven't seen a final layout for the cranes.

A lot of activities have been happening, it's just not as visible as steel erection. They've been bolting up all the connections, painting connections and any damaged steel, installing the north wall and it's framing (hard to see because it's on the other side of the structure), installing the misc. metals, etc. Lots of work, not a lot of visible progress.

You erect steel, you don't build it. Same as you don't pour concrete, you place it. We are very picky about our verbs in construction.

If you want a real laugh I normally get an e-mail once a week at work titled '3 Week Erection Schedule.'


Back on topic, I'm really surprised that thing ways 170 tons. Must be a lot heavier sections than I was guessing they were. Should be a pretty cool pick to watch.

Long time reader here, first time poster though.

I was watching the scoreboard webcam today and it looks like they may have put up the logo on the backside of the scoreboard, the side closest to the Jacobson Building.

Is there anyone in Ames that could prove or disprove this?

Also, the picture in post #155 clearly shows the metal backing already installed on the north side of the structure.
