Tech will make the tourney this year.
I am very concerned with the lack of movement on offense. With a four guard lineup we should be running around, coming off screens, misdirection for threes or layups and attacking the glass with toughness. None of that is happening right now.

It seemed to happen more when it was apparent that ISU had somewhat of a threat--Young--down low.

I also thought Jackson and Weiler Babb were more active and brought some energy to the floor.

Start Young with Holden as his backup. Burton and Bowie split time at the 4. Burton for some reason refuses to be a post presence, AND FAILS TO BOX OUT!! Bowie puts in the effort but lacks the junk in the trunk to be truly effective in the post.

If need be go four guards and one post like they did tonight but that post has to be Young and one of the guards has to be Babb
I added the bolded part to your post. I was so frustrated with his and Matt's defense tonight & some of us in our section tonight actually were applauding Prohm's decision to sit those guys for much of the second half. Now, after having read about Matt's foot injury - I can understand why he was frequently getting beat. But Burton continues to "suck" on defense. Hopefully Solomon continues to grow game by game - because we need a better post presence than what we have.

I'm fine with the ragging on Tech, because while they were in the tourney, they were 7th in a league of 10 last year. This is a deep league, and at this point it looks like as many as 8 teams could play their way into the tourney this year. We've gotta take care of business against Tech, TCU, K-State, and OU (could put Texas here, but I think they're going to turn it on here soon). Then, we have a shot to go dancing. I'm still convinced that 9-9 won't do it for us with the lack of a good win in the non-con.
Texas is 6-7. It's going to take a lot for them to get in

We had 14 points with 5 minutes to go in the 1st half. 14!!
This team needs to press all game, not like West Virginia but enough pressure where you can hopefully turn the game into a track meet. We are horrendous offensively in a half court set and I don't see that changing.

Young needs more than 15 minutes game I think that's pretty obvious...Holden is odd man out IMO..Bowie is capable of scoring some at least but Young brings so much needed freshman energy he has to be out there..And Babb as well...it's too bad because Burton is talented offensively but is such a defensive and rebounding liability that if he's not hitting shots he's basically worthless

Our defense is great. With 14 with 5 minutes to go 1st half makes it obvious we have to burn the paint more to score. Until we become a better threat on the inside it's not gonna happen inside or out. We can't live by 3's so I hoped they learned something tonight.

This was a nice win, but it is nearly January 1 and we have some big issues.

The first is our disfunctional starting lineup. For starting 5 seniors, these guys lack chemistry and each one seems to want to play hero ball. Way too much dribbling, not enough movement, not good passing and A LOT of tough jump shots.

Inconsistent defense. It seems either very good or very bad. Prohm mentioned it in his post game interview- maybe we need to press more often.

Guys playing out of position. Burton is not a PF. He is a defensive liability in the paint and he is a 250lb. finesse player. Burton is a SF. Bowe isn't a center. He is also a SF, who can play PF if there is a physical player at center.

We are sorely missing a guy with post offensive skills, who can rebound and guard the rim. I watched the Purdue v. Iowa game on Thursday. I loved watching Purdue's 1970's game with Swanigan and Haas. I had forgoteen what it looked like for guards to feed the post and post players with footwork and post moves to score effectively.

I think the time has come for ISU to start Bowe and Young at the two PF spots. Young is tall, physical and tough, plus has an energy and attitude no other player on the team provides. I start Bowe, but from my upper deck seats, no way he looks 6'7". His height and physical stature appear the same as Weiler-Babb, so Nick may be able to play post in a 4 guard lineup.

Game changed on three factors for me: 1) We decided to play defense, and while some of that was personnel change, there was a decision to step it up and we quit giving up layups; 2) Our increased defensive pressure lead to more turnovers and transition opportunities; 3) Naz was ugly for half the game...until he decided to take it to the hole, which opened up the outside game. When we play 4 guards that can be a threat from 3 range, the we should be able to move the ball until we get the open shot or the match-up we want to take someone off the dribble. We gotta move the ball. Loved Morris's three in rhythm after he passed to Jackson in the corner and got it right back.

Despite the belief of many on here, Tech is actually a decent team. We looked like dog **** in the first half, but it looked like they finally figured something out when they were making their run; something I hadn't seen all year (you could argue the Gonzaga run, but that was more Burton getting hot than anything).
The one common theme during the second half tonight, the run vs Gonzaga and much of the Miami game was that pace was Helter Skelter, there was plenty of early offense. Unlike past years there is some good depth, and sans Niang half court offense is brutal right now. This team plays best in chaos and has the bodies to do it. I loved the energy and ball movement by Jackson. He is really improving. I'd like Young to start with Bowie coming off the bench and sticking to hitting the offensive glass, which he does well. NWB continues to impress me as well.

We need Naz to slash the lane all the time. We also need a high intensity from start to finish period. Anyone who isn't out there competing all the time should be riding the pine. Burton needs to get his big boy pants on immediately. Why isn't he running the lane and posterizing people on a daily basis?. That guy needs to just stop worrying about getting fouls dunk the F out of that basketball!

Can the coaches come up with some plays out of timeouts and when ISU is in bounding the ball? That is the key to the season

This is a fair point, although I don't know about key to the season. If you watched the KU/TCU game, Self drew up inbounds plays that netted AT LEAST 6 points. They won by 6. Those are "stolen" points. Hoiberg was a master at those - and given all the close games we won over his five years I think it's safe to say those stolen points made a big difference in our W/L record.

The lack of those has perplexed me so far with Prohm.
