***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

KOC has a big portfolio of not giving Minnesota the best chance to win at the end in a close one, but this may take the cake. Two straight tush pushes with Brandon Powell of all people behind to assist the QB.

This isn’t our season ever since Cousins got hurt but man it still stings to lose ones that you should win. I’m tired of KOC throwing away our shot when we’ve got a good one at the end, even despite other mistakes and errors before that
A lot of coaches are just better coordinators than head coaches-nothing wrong with that. I happen to think both of ours fit that bill, unfortunately.

My postgame thoughts:

I don’t see any of these three backup qbs being anything besides backups. I firmly believe Vikings should resign cousins to a 2 year deal if the price is right. This will then allow the team to resign JJ while buying time to figure out their long time solution. Mullens was way too careless with the ball, even on his two TD passes

Skill players had a good game. Bright spot today

The turning point for the defense was allowing the 3rd and 21 conversion. Inexcusable…. And it was all downhill from there

Once they went up by 14 it looked like they, once again, went into playing not to lose mode.

Put the franchise tag on cousins.

I was one that wasn’t in favor of spending on Cousins after an injury. The last 2 weeks have made me completely flip on that. There truly isn’t anything out there for a QB. Bring him and his gold chains back!!

Even if we sneak in the playoffs the QBs on the roster aren't winning a game. I'm kind of over this season
My retrospective hot take on the QBs is that Joe Flacco was available went this all went down for us. He's doing just fine and easily beating the rest of our QB room (barring Hall, sort of. We still don't know what we have there).

I was angry for about an hour afterwards.
Here's the thing...the QB tush pushes were not bad play calls per sa. What WAS bad was the players KO used to run those plays in that situation. You can't expect a small, weak, unathletic Quarterback to run that play. And you certainly can't have him run that play being pushed by a freaking wide receiver! That is just egregious and stupid to try and do so TWICE! I have no other choice to think Coach O'Connell is either incompetent...or lacks the ability to put his players in a position to win. Either way, it does not bode well for the Vikings future if he doesn't improve in this aspect. BE BETTER COACH!

I would have loved seeing the Vikings do the same play that ISU did against Texas on that 4th and 1. Fake the hand off to Sama and throw it 5 yards to the TE over the middle for an easy 6.

Wasn't he the RAMS coordinator during their Super Bowl run? I wonder how many times Sean McVey overrides his play calling to cover up KOs idiocracy on some play calls.
I'm pretty sure McVey called all the plays. Like our current situation where KOC is the play caller and Phillips is the "coordinator".

You're shitting me. The dude lead the team that set the NFL record last year for one possession games. Holy ****.

And his record in games decided by 7 points or less this year is 4-7. In at least half of those losses, a key decision that he made toward the end didn't work. Not sure how that's complicated to understand.

I'm not saying to fire KOC but I am saying that his turtling at the end of the Bears game or using Brandon Powell on two straight tush pushes yesterday were both negative EV decisions. I get that a nuanced point might be tricky for you.

The Bills game last year was very poor play-calling that should have cost them the game. Gave up a FG at the end of the half through calling the deep shot on 3rd and medium, then didn’t get the first. Gave the Bills the ball and just enough time. Also had the dumb cute play that led to the fumble I believe on 1st and goal.

Sort of like the play action on first and goal from the 1 yesterday. Bad play call and terrible decision by Mullens to throw into coverage but got lucky. First and goal from the one? That might’ve been the dumbest combo of coach/QB decision-making given the situation I’ve seen in a while.

There’s a lot I like about KOC. He keeps his cool and I think that reflects on the team. But his clock management, challenge usage and tendency to get way too cute and take risk when it’s not needed is a bit of a problem.

It's not nuanced at all. That makes him what....15-7 as a head coach? That's ridiculously good.

I guess he’s banked 7 more losses where he could coach like Tom Manning before any criticism might be warranted.
