Yeah I have a Viking fan friend who’s talking me off the ledge. “3rd day pick” is a big range though. Wait and see I guess.the dude got beat out by FA Dalton Risner and was going to walk in FA after the season anyway (wants to be a LT not LG) and no way are we sending Darrisaw down the road.
Agreed. Losing Cleveland isn't going to be a big loss to the offensive line. He was settling into a role as backup these last two weeks.Cleveland was now 2nd team OG with the Vikings behind Risner. The Vikings line has played much better since Risner took over the starting job. Cleveland is in his final year of his rookie contract. Cleveland wants to be an OT in the NFL and the Vikings already have their two OT's. At least the Vikings were able to get something.
At the end of the day after the two trades, the Vikings have acquired a QB that has started 8 games this year and a conditional 7th round pick. Overall I would say the Vikings did ok or better than ok.
They likely thought they wouldn't come to a new contract agreement with Cleveland.I'll wait and see what the draft pick is for Cleveland, but on the surface it seems short sighted. If the FO thinks they have a run in them, then why trade your depth at a precarious position?
I'm sure that was the case, but I fall back to why trade depth if the front office thinks they have something as they keep saying. I could get on board with the idea if it was even a 4 rounder, but it sounds like this is going to be 6th or so?They likely thought they wouldn't come to a new contract agreement with Cleveland.
Only Rapoport describes 2nd teamers as ‘standouts’.This can’t be real can it?View attachment 118690

You're getting a sixth round draft pick without having to give up one of your four allowed compensatory picks, which likely would had been a sixth round for Cleveland.I'm sure that was the case, but I fall back to why trade depth if the front office thinks they have something as they keep saying. The cynic in me says the front office knows this season is a bust but won't admit it.
I like the trade in the sense that we needed depth and Dobbs is solid. Still would like to see what Hall has this week, but Dobbs is a better backup than Mannion

This is the current Managements 2nd season in charge of the Vikings. Management doesn't want to 'give up' on the season (and have a losing record). However, management also knows even if they do make the playoffs the team won't be making a Super Bowl run. Add value where you can without giving up draft capital. Now we can all hope that Kwesi improves his drafting ..I'm sure that was the case, but I fall back to why trade depth if the front office thinks they have something as they keep saying. I believe the Vikings would have had a compensatory pick if Cleveland signed with a different team while in FA and the round of the pick is based on many factors, such as number of snaps played and salary. Someone smarter than me can correct me if I'm wrongHow do the compensatory picks work? Would Cleveland have even drawn a compensatory pick?

But his contract would also be offset by how much money the Vikes spend on FA in the offseason too.Sounds like he would have to be considered to be in the Top 35% of all players, but I don't know if they count that.
