I'll bet they low-ball him and have next to nothing owed if they fire him. It's going to be an offer with the shortest leash imaginable.
May be interesting to see what the other UT assistant coaches do. Hopefully will be enough change to keep things like a new coaching hire next year.

No coach will sign a 3-4 year deal, but we’ll know how long it really is when we see the buyout numbers.
That's a good hire if true.
I watched a decent chunk of UVU's win over Cincinnati in the NIT last week and they are a really fun, up-tempo team to watch.
Cal could take a while to be good, and I've seen it referred to being one of the hardest Power 5 jobs in the country. They could be bad for a while but if he keeps the same system they'll at least be entertaining.
All part of the master culture plan. It'll take a good 3 years just to get the fans at the games to respect opposing players and not call names. Years 4 and 5 is where the getting is good and wins and losses start to matter.
Side-note that I find interesting, if Cal does hire Madsen.
Madsen played at Stanford when Mike Montgomery was head coach. Montgomery left Stanford to coach in NBA for a few seasons, then returned to CBB as Cal's head coach.
Montgomery was about the last time that school showed a pulse.
