2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

If Ryan's out for a significant time, we will lose a lot of games. And that's ok. There's a lot of young talent on this team, and it will probably be a force in the future. I hope Britt Prince realizes what a great situation she'd be walking into if she chooses ISU.

Anyone going to the game tomorrow? I'll be tuning in to watch.

Looked up the Butler game preview if peeps are interested in any info about them. Our own previews don't usually contain much about the opponent. Butler is Diew's old team so that is two games to start the season with a Cyclone player connection. Picked for 8th in Big East sandwiched between DePaul and Provenience. Butler had a nothingburger scrimmage versus team lost to Simpson last year so they haven't really played yet.

Some quotes from Butlersports.com :

Butler will try to knock off an Iowa State program that has not lost a season opener since 1994!
Butler had five players shoot 40% or higher from 3-point range last year and three more shot over 35%. (didn't dig into who of these are back).
Anna Mortag and Rachel Kent are reunited at Butler after playing together at IUPUI during a historic 2021-22 season. Under the direction of Parkinson, the Jags went 24-5, won the Horizon League Tournament and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. IUPUI took #11 Michigan into overtime at the start of the year and moved forward to defeat #15 Iowa with Mortag and Kent in the mix. New Coordinator of Recruiting and Creative Content Director Madison Wise was also a graduate transfer (Iowa State) on that team.

I will be there. Very interested in seeing this team against real competition.

I'll be there too. Love doubleheader days. Ladies need to cruise home in this one before a tough trip to Drake next weekend. Will also be good to welcome a former player back, (Maddison Wise is coordinator of recruiting and creative content for Butler)

Let's get the season started

You don't know $HIT, I'm gonna bet on that. I "hate" when people say they know something or think they know something, but it just wouldn't be right if they typed it on some random message board. I don't care about your "bet" and if you're not going to tell people your "rumor", then don't type anything at all, except for attention!
Sir. It’s a personal issue for her and I’m am not at liberty to put it out to the public since she doesn’t want it to be. Why do you think Bill is so coy about it?

I appreciate the comment though.

ESPN’s Charlie Crème has a way too early women’s NCAA field with 7 Big XII teams, but no ISU. He has Nebraska in the field as a 7 Seed for those of you wondering why Britt Prince stayed home.

While I’m excited to see how our highly touted freshman fare, I don’t have high expectations.

So because some guy has Iowa State missing the tourney for the first time since 2018, vs Nebraska who missed 2019, 2021, and 2023, a basketball recruit saw that potential uncertain future and was like, choice is clear! Truly incredible insight, that was quite obviously a leading reason for Britt Prince! :jimlad:

I am sort of in this camp. I was cautiously optimistic about the team for this season thinking Ryan would be the glue to maybe pull off a NCAA bid with the team improving as the season went on. I have tempered that as an "expectation" not knowing how likely Ryan is to play.

I do still think they are going to be interesting and fun to watch. Looking forward to the season for sure, just not with a lot of expectation for anything specific as far as wins and losses go. More into anticipation than expectations.

Next year, depending on how the freshman develop and who we get via the portal, I might have high expectations. Sort of how adding Soares peaked expectations last season before she got hurt.

People were questioning why Britt Prince would select Nebraska several days ago and here’s evidence that suggests a basketball insider sees them as a school on the rise. Nothing more and nothing less. It wasn’t an indictment of ISU - she had many great offers and we have no idea where ISU ranked on her list.

A reminder that tickets for the Iowa game are only $25 if you are a season ticket holder/cyclone club member. They go up to $40 on Nov 27th. I don't want to be swarmed by Hawks.

So far, watching other Big 12 teams, I am becoming more and more optimistic about the season. We look faster and quicker this year (minus Crooks of course). The talent is here. Emily being out early could be a blessing in disguise as Jackson is looking really good so far picking up PG duties. This team also, so far, is moving the ball much better than past year's teams. My fear is when Emily comes back, the ball sticks more (as BF has always been a coach who likes to have one ball dominant player - and Emily would be it this year).

Brown and Bristow are going to be absolute STUDS if they continue to develop/gorw this season considering how much talent they both already have.

Boring week coming up for both WBB and MBB, no games till Sunday and Monday and both of them are cupcakes. Than on to some good games for Thanksgiving. Probably not signing up to FloHoops to watch the gals so next real game will be St. Thomas for me.

Boxster, do you have any info on how we can get group tickets for our game vs the Tommies? I think you mentioned something about it. Thanks in advance!

Here's the special link for Cyclone fans to buy general admission tickets for just $5. There is a $3 processing charge but that is applied to the order and not by ticket. Tickets are e-tickets and emailed. All of the game tickets are general admission so first come first served for the best seats but I m thinking all of the seating will be pretty good.

TICKETS FOR ST. THOMAS GAME

I'll post the email that went out to ISU alumni in Minnesota. Will post some advice on where to park later. Parking on this small campus is challenging but after hours there should be plenty of space in the ramp(s). Pre-game will be down the road at Tiffany Sports Bar but that is not within walking distance.

BTW, I am the ISUAA event host for this so if you have any questions you can CF message me or post them here in this thread.
