2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

I have not heard much about the defensive potential of the team this year. Those who have gotten to see them, who do you think are the top tier defenders right now, and who do you expect to see improve the most of the newcomers? Who draws the most time slowing CC22?

Top passers article. Ryan clocks in at #5 behind #1 Clark and #4 Harmon. Drake's Katie Dinnebier is #8.

5. Emily Ryan, Iowa State (6.4 assists/game)
Championing a YMCA approach on the hardwood, Ryan's effectiveness often comes from her deceptive head fakes, back-to-the-basket prowess and her patience on ball screens rather than straight-line speed, and her excellent passing is another fitting aspect of this approach. Since arriving to Ames in 2020, Ryan has been one of the very best passers in America, dishing out 5.9 dimes per game, and actually going on to finish fourth in DI with 7.1 assists per game her sophomore season.
Ryan's numbers dropped across the board last season, perhaps to fuel the supernova better known as Ashley Joens, but with WNBA scooping up both Joens and star center Stephanie Soares, Ryan's role as both a scorer and a facilitator only projects to grow entering the 2023-24 campaign. - NCAA.com
Teenie tiny tidbits from the video: Audi does look fitter. And, her pass over a practice player is something we need in games. So, yeah it all looks positive.

Without Czinano as an easy assist, I could see #1 as pushing herself to do even more, lowering her assist numbers. I may be surprised, but I would bet on that.

Em too may try to do more scoring straight up. But if it works out we really do have great talent, and if they see openings and follow set plays, we could actually see her ratio rise.

Yeah, just a snippet but the high release point on Brown's shot looked pretty impressive to me.

Only one week away! I'm pretty excited to see this new group. :D

Not going to be much for me to see as an out of state guy until the 29th. November's pretty much a wash for ESPN+ subscription. Full TV coverage after that.

Truman State - exhibition, no TV
Butler - ESPN+
Drake - TV? Anyone know if just local or ESPN+?
Southern - ESPN+
Vanderbuilt - Flohoops - boo!
Syracues - Flohoops - boo!
St. Thomas - In the stands! - Summit League Network for TV.

Div II Truman State plays Illinois a couple of days before they play us. Will be interesting to see the score for that game and judge how bad the exhibition might be.

St. Thomas plays at Drake Nov. 6th. Should be a chance to see if St. Thomas is better than last year. They are picked to be near the bottom of the Summit (not surprising).

At least last year, the Missouri Valley Conference was on ESPN+.

I remember the last time we had a player that was sidelined by unspecified physical problem. It resolved itself with no long term effects.

I am going to bet that Ryan doesn’t play this year. I can’t specifically say what’s going on there because it’s pretty personal…but she’s battling something that will take a few months to figure out how to help it.

I had heard something similar. People in another thread were being kind of hard on Bill for being vague but I think he has to be given the situation. It’s not as simple as “sprained ankle out 3 weeks” or something of the like.

Yep. Gotta be vague about this. Not something that you would want public if you are her.

If Ryan's out for a significant time, we will lose a lot of games. And that's ok. There's a lot of young talent on this team, and it will probably be a force in the future. I hope Britt Prince realizes what a great situation she'd be walking into if she chooses ISU.
I was just talking to my dad tonight about this. Without Ryan this team will be up and down. Could be a borderline tournament team. We have to be prepared for some bad nights (Iowa and Drake likely a pair in he non-con) an some bright spots as well. Could be a great coaching challenge.

You don't know $HIT, I'm gonna bet on that. I "hate" when people say they know something or think they know something, but it just wouldn't be right if they typed it on some random message board. I don't care about your "bet" and if you're not going to tell people your "rumor", then don't type anything at all, except for attention!

North Dakota State and Syracuse to. Bison are picked as #2 in the Summit in pre-season poll.
