Do we make the tournament last year if we slip in those 10 games?

Do we go 7-11 in conference if we have Tre King? You can play that both ways.
How close would Holmes, Green be to a push offensively with Hunter, Brockington? Because after that we'll be better at every position.
Brockington was a freak, and exactly what last year's team needed. I would say he single handily won the Xavier, Iowa, Ok St, and West Virginia games. I get Iowa was not a close game, but he was big defensively against Murray.
I would also say Gabe won the Memphis, Texas, and Wisconsin games. And Hunter won the LSU game.
I'm hoping whoever is on the roster buys in to TJs system, and that his system is repeatable. I think that will mean more than trying to replace player A or player B's production.
I'm curious to see just how much this staff adjusts the game plan to the talents of a new roster.
I have a lot of faith in them after what they did with this year’s squad.
It’s not necessarily both ways if getting King gets you just back to being whole to a year ago.
We were short scorers last year and lost IB and Hunter. AJG is a scorer but not the defender or rebounder. Potentially a net loss. Is Holmes better than Hunter? King helps make up the losses and get us back to parity, but before he’s eligible? Is he more than Enaruna? We thought Enaruna was more than Enaruna at this time a year ago.
Speaking of both ways- the non-conference has no slack to get better or improve on a year ago. On the other hand, we could have been worse than 7-11. Our conference record fell near the middle of plausible outcomes Imo
We’ll certainly have more options to try. That should translate to being deeper. But teams usually go as their top few players go. I don’t know if we’ve improved in that regard. Hopefully we add several starter upgrades
This entire post is based on if AJ Green commits to ISU. If he doesn't, obviously that drastically changes the outlook for next season. Just wanted to acknowledge that up front.
Primary Ballhandlers: Green / Williams
Guards: Holmes / Kalscheur / Grill (one of Green/Williams when both are on court)
4 position: Kunc / Tre King
Bigs: Ward / Osunniyi or Basile or Bates
There's your assumed 9-man rotation right now as of May 2. Jones is a big backup. Then you wait and see what happens with the three freshmen with King, Lipsey, and Watson and if any of them can play right away and steal minutes from one of those above 9.
As far as the, "where are the scorers"? crowd. Brockington averaged 12 a game at Penn State before jumping to 17 here. AJ averaged 19 a game for two straight years in the Valley. I'd be shocked if he didn't average 14-15 (if not more) a game here depending on usage rate. So there's your 1-for-1 replacement if you just want to simplify "who's scoring what Brockington scored?" But the new additions of Holmes, Williams, and Tre King will likely score more than the departures of Hunter, Enaruna, Jackson, and Walker. Those last 3 barely played.
And shooting wise, you have more perimeter insurance if Gabe or Grill are having an off-shooting night. Last year if those two struggled along with Hunter, it felt like we literally had no options outside of Brockington (who teams started to scout and prepare for better as the season progressed). If the roster looks like the above, I feel (or at least hope) that there will be more options than last season. Or least there will be more variance as far as where the scoring is coming from. And you will hopefully have 3 guys who can initiate the offense in Green, Williams, and Holmes rather than the 1.5 guys from last year (Hunter and sometimes Gabe).
And at center, we'll wait and see. Unless it's Basile, none of those guys are "throw the ball to them in the post and let them go" style of players. They'll score through pick and rolls, lobs, offensive rebounding, and effort. And I think if the center position is Ward, Osunniyi or Bates, and Jones, it will be better and more versatile on defense than just Conditt/Jones.

Per CW and Blum, it's not an upgrade overall by any means, but it's a solid back court for big 12. Probably because of Hunters upside.
I think Green is an upgrade over IZB. He shoots better, and isn't limited to only driving left. Holmes has proven that he can shoot at a high clip, so you just hope last year was an anomaly.
Holmes was 8th in the NCAA in total minutes played last year.
After listening to that latest podcast I feel significantly better about the Holmes signing.
Now our guards are all 6'4ish+, And are all above average defenders. So there is a chance we are upgraded on D, even with losing Hunter.
Cool to be on the list. Where would ISU rank in the preference order? Maybe 4th? (KU, Arkansas, Alabama)... just spitballing here.
Bates and Basile should commit this week some time, per CW podcast. Doesn't sound great with Bates, or Basile.
Would be huge if we could get in on the St Bonaventure C that's in the portal. If we miss out on both Bates and Basile.

Just curious why everyone is so high on Ricky Council. I mean he averaged 12 point a game and shot 30 percent from 3. Not saying he is a bad add but it's not like we are getting a Barn burner. Just curious.
