2017 Football schedule

Yep I think you're right and schools like ISU and KU will see their schedules be relatively easy toward the beginning of the season. Wouldn't be shocked to see KU @ ISU kick off the conference schedule on 9/30.

If the schedules at FBschedules.com are to be believed, Ohio has an open date on 9/23. Move KU-Ohio back from 9/16 to 9/23. That leaves KU and ISU open on 9/16 for a conference game, which then moves ISU's open week later in the season (hooray).

In this scenario, ISU's September slate would be vs UNI, vs Iowa, vs Kansas, at Akron. (Yes, please.)

Sounds great in theory, but this has about a 0.01% chance of happening

Nonconference games have been adjusted in the past to accommodate conference schedules.

With one less week to fit all the games, it doesn't make sense for ISU to be the only team with an open date on 9/16, and an odd number of teams with an open date on 9/23. Flip one of those to 9/16, and you can knock out a league game on the 16th, and the remaining even number of teams can pair up to start league play on the 23rd. Otherwise, you're wasting dates.

Any word on the actual conference schedule for 2017?

What we know now:

Sept. 2: UNI
Sept. 9: Iowa
Sept. 23: @ Akron

Home: Kansas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas
Away: Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor, West Virginia

after seeing that home conference schedule I think we can win'em all...KU is beatable OSU is not a good team TCU will be down after beating up on texass and tu will be a shambles by the time we play them in the early snow and ice storm...

I'm sorry, but if any of us think Iowa is vulnerable due to graduation losses to their defense, the participation reports simply do not support this.

Against us, Iowa started 6 seniors on offense and three seniors on defense.
In their win against Michigan, they started 4 seniors on offense and 3 seniors on defense.
Against Nebraska, they started 3 seniors on offense and 3 seniors on "d". And that was their senior day game.

I don't think they'll be rebuilding a damn thing. Even the loss of Beathard will not be felt that significantly since Iowa's offense, for the most part, features a plug and play quarterback.

R U an IOA Choke-Eye in disguise?.....lol

-We'll beat UNI next year
-We'll beat Iowa as well. They are setting up for a rebuilding year, especially with a new and inexperienced QB taking the reigns
-We'll beat Akron
-We'll beat KU. They're getting better, so it won't be easy
-Probably lose to TCU. Although, I think it's more of a toss-up game.
-Texas is a tough pick right now. A new coach next year and I think we beat them
-OSU will beat us
-KSU likely beats us
-OU = duh
-Baylor could be a win for us. They'll be transitioning to a new staff
-TT is another tough game to predict. Possible new staff for them as well
-WVU is a likely loss. Without knowing who returns for them, I think they're still a tough outing

Basically, I'm not really certain what our record looks like next year. An educated guess has me thinking 6-6. It all really depends on how we start the season. If we have 4 wins through the first 4 games, it'll be impossible to say what our ceiling is. Confidence can go a very long way. Campbell is changing the losers mentality surrounding the program.

"KSU likely beats us".....the last time we beat thee mildcats er wildcats I was in diapers...lol

The loss of King and Johnson are huge, but Iowa only loses one at each level for 2017, as Jewel has already said he is returning. Also, it appears Matt VandeBerg will get a fifth year, but more importantly all five of lineman that started yesterday are back. Oh, and that Wadley guy is back!

I think the UNI game next year will either be the most satisfying game in a long time...or maybe I'll stop following college football after 30+ years.

And you would think the conference would love to have what is likely to be the 9th and 10th best teams to square off in the non con portion of the schedule. That way it's likely to be picked up by an FS1 in September compared to FSN in November.

ISU should win 4 or 5 games in 2017. 6-6 is possible if all the stars align. Building a winning program takes a little time. 2018 is the year Cyclone fans should be looking forward to going to a bowl.

Very true. Currently, the Big 12-controlled games for Sept. 16:
Tulane at Oklahoma
SMU at TCU
Arizona State at Texas Tech
Delaware State at West Virginia (most likely a T3/school broadcast)

A fourth game (KU-ISU) would help fill inventory.

How could we possible be playing @Akron? I mean how? Looking at that schedule early prediction:

UNI- Win and by alot
Iowa- Win. They lose alot on D and think Jewel goes pro too.
@Akron- Win
KU- Win
TCU- Win
Texas- Loss
Okie s- Win
@KSU- Win
@OU- Loss
@ Baylor- Win
@ TT- Win
@WV- Loss

9-3....Book it.

I doubt Jewell goes pro. But the defense does't lose a lot. They lose two very good players in Desmond King and Jaleel Johnson. They also lose Mabin and Ekakite who started when Bazata got hurt, but everyone else is back. They have a lot back on defense. Their whole offensive line, if Vandenberg gets a redshirt they are better at WR, Fant came on at TE, and Akrum Wadley back at RB. They need to replace Bethards but Iowa has a lot of returning players back.

I think you are selling ISU short, I have a bowl game for 2017 and 2018 is a chance for ISU to finish top 3 in conference.

I know it might sound crazy but look at the roster and you will see a ton of guys that are frosh and soph right now playing a ton and playing well. I think Park will be a stud, an absolute stud. He'll be a senior in 2018. Throw in the current recruiting class and I think there will be a lot to build on.

If the staff develops long term the way they did for this year there should be lots of good times ahead. Baylor, Tech and most likely KSU (Snyder retires after this year or next) will likely be in transition at that time. (I say Baylor because they essentially had no 2016 recruiting class and 2017 isn't shaping up well)

The game in Ames will likely be close, no idea who wins. Iowa returns a lot, but does lose some very good players. Fans see the Iowa of the last 3 weeks, the returning starters and just think that everything picks up next year where that left off. Football doesn't work like that.

Iowa will be playing a QB making his first career road start, and breaking in a new punter. Outside of that, every other starter/contributor will likely have played a lot of snaps in 2016 (unless a freshman WR plays, which is possible).
