2012 Chevy Silverado or Ford F150 4x4

Have a 08 silverado that is just about 4 years old now. With around 71k miles and no problems at all so far I am very happy with my choice.
I did really like the F150 too, but they were so much more expensive back then and had worse gas mileage then the silverado to boot.

The vehicle drives as smooth as a car, sometimes you can forget you are actually driving a truck. Has no problem pulling my skidloader around when needed, though I did like the extra 1500 lbs the F150 was rated to tow. I don't tow that much weight frequently so it did not really matter.

I, and everybody that rides with me, love my '10 Sierra. It is the All Terrain package so it's a
little nicer than the rest. I don't think I would buy a Silverado because I don't care for the style and they are EVERYWHERE.

Personally its all about your preference in what feels better. All will have their pros and cons.

Regarding the bailout, honest question, how many were laid off between the two companies? Also, did GM pay off their debt with interest? I hated seeing a once proud company taking well fare, but it seems it worked out. I really don't know.

Not overly fact based, but my opinion. I drive a 2010 Dodge Ram Crew Cab SLT now... I absolutely love everything about it. It's great. I had a Chevrolet before that and it was awesome as well. I cannot get on board with the look of the Fords. I would buy another Chevy truck in a HEART BEAT. So my opinion, go Chevy.

My 2007 Silverado (new style) is a great truck.

And I'm guessing the Chevy you saw had a 6spd transmission. Which changes things, comparing rear gearings.

Nothing wrong with the Fords either. $ for $ my Chevy pulls just as good and has more bells and whistles.

Ford.

If it was good enough for Fred and Lamont Sanford, it should be good enough for any of us.

No they aren't. The Powerstroke now sucks.

As for half ton pick-ups, I don't think you can really mess up. I bought my 09 Chevy a little over two years ago. Had I been able to get the same options on a Dodge for even close to the same money, I would have gone with the Dodge. The problem was that it was going to cost me about 5 grand to do that. I love my pickup but today, it really doesn't matter which half ton you get. You will probably like it. Just buy the one you want. As for the back seat space, I didn't care. It's my pickup I'm never sitting in the back.

The powerstroke is a great motor,This coming from a chevy guy.Chevy built the worst diesels on the face of the Earth! They finally had to give up and outsource.I worked for a large construction company that bought 50 new chevy diesels,Thinking they would be tough. They started blowing up the first day we got them.We never had more than 20 running at any one time. Finally had to put gas motors in every single one. What a joke.Fords new diesel is Ford built Quiet beautiful motor.

I would suggest taking a test drive in a Ford and Chevy, and decide what best suits your needs. The way you use your truck is going to be unique, and things that are important to you may not be to someone else. And if you're going to test drive them, I would suggest also test driving a Ram truck as well. I think you'll be surprised at how far the Ram truck line has come since the new body style came out in 2009.

why support the government motor company and chrysler. they received stimulus money from the government . they should have gone thru bankruptcy and not have gotten any money from the government.
ford did not have to get any money from the government.they still are run by ford family heirs and know how to make money with out any government handouts. ford has been the the top truck in sales in texas for several years. i would take a ford over any government motors truck any day. nissan is doing very well with their truck sales.too.
i cast my vote for ford!!!!!!!

Even Ford has said that had GM not been given the bailout money they would have gone down with them. Ford wasn't in good shape either and had GM gone under their shared vendors would have gone under taking Ford with them.

Back in 08 I drove both the Silverado and the Sierra and they were the exact same truck just a different name. Is that some how different now?

Sierra's and Silverado's 1500 and 2500 are built on same platform, engine, powertrain, are the same....

But there are body styling differences, mainly in front grill....

My brother owns an RV dealership. Has had Silverado, F250, but is getting a Dodge Ram next. Do you really want a company owned by the Government in GM?

After 50 some responses, here is a summary. Both the F150 and the GM trucks are POS that constantly break down. Oh and Dodge is even worse.

Unless you have short man syndrome, I think this is the truck for you.

Actually, Chrysler has paid back its loan from the government early, with interest. The majority owner of Chrysler is now Fiat, which also now owns Case/IH and New Holland ag equipment.

The current 6.7 ltr powerstroke does not suck. You are referring to the previous 2 versions which were made by International. The new Powerstroke is now made in house by Ford and is great engine with good reliability and fuel mileage.

True. The sad thing (for the reputation of the PowerStroke) is that with some straight-forward modifications, the 6.0L (the engine that started the reliability fiasco) can be made into an economical, rock solid engine that generates exceptional power for its size and weight. While Ford and Navistar were pointing fingers/duking it out in the court room, the BulletProof Diesel guys figured out how to make the engine reliable.

FYI ... Ford took a $5.9B loan from the Department of Energy in 2009 to upgrade factories to increase fuel efficiency. Nissan took a $1.4B loan for the same reason. Both are forms of handouts from the government.

You must think your brother is a real piece of work going with a company that has been bailed out not once, but twice.
