12/18 Official Coaching Search Thread

IF Phillip Fulmer is really interested. We have our next coach. Listen the guy has won 75% of his games at Tennessee, can recruit and WON A NATIONAL TITLE in 1998.

Only 2 losing seasons. And this will be his last coaching job cause he is 58 years old.

Yesterday there was a long thread on what would be a modern-day "Johnny Orr" hire for football...

hiring Fulmer would be as close as it'd come, in my opinion.

Agree somewhat. But what made the hiring of Johnny even more surprising is that he already had a job...and a very good job at Michigan. The hiring of Fulmer would have only occurred because he was fired at Tennessee. Not saying it woudln't be a good hire...but less surprising than ISU landing Johnny Orr.

would be interesting to say the least. Could be a nice shot at redemption for him.

If he ran a program like Tennesse into the ground, what makes us think he will succeed in Ames?

Not the case at all. He just wasn't able to generate the same level of success these last few years.

It concerns me he couldn't keep up with the Joneses in SEC (Florida, Georgia, Alabama) and lost his job because of it.

I see your point, but at this point we are not trying to be competitive with Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. We just need to be competitive with Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Nebraska. Then we can worry about being competitive with better teams.

Not many coaches can keep up with Florida, Georgia, Alabama just like most can't keep up with Oklahoma, Texas, but I would bet anything he could keep up with other North teams and have you guys winning North titles or at least in position to win them in the near future. I think it would be an outstanding hire if he is interested.
