McCarney wide right...........

Isunorth,

I will appologize for lumping you with the guy who posted right before you. However, your support for his side of the arguement and downplaying of ethics improtance still rub me the wrong way. The poster that posted before you did basically say a certain level of cheating is only prudent, and right after that you say ethics don't pay the bills. I'm sure you can see where someone might lump those comments together.

As I said I do agree that winning and ethics are not mutually exclusive, and I do see where you are more trying to make that point. However, poor timing makes it weigh more on the side of defending the guy talking about cheating and general shadieness. Like I said, lumping you two together makes your comments look worse than they were. I apologize.

I stand by my comments in that pollard has made the big picture a lot more competitive, and taken a lot of the off the field/court problems and fixed them. He should get to include those in his resume when being evaluated and so should GM. AD and coach is not a commission based job. Its based on many objectives that can serve the university with or without making millions of dollars.

I can only hope the wins in MBB and FB will come. I don't settle for mediocrity, but it is clear that both guys are selling the program to a lot of people who matter, and building a stedier foundation than what was there in basketball. At the time, 90% of the sports world thought in football, GC was a good swap for Dan. I was sad to see Dan go, myself, but saw some value in what was going on too. It was a big deal, nationally was thought of as a great hire. I want to win as much as any good fan, and I thought that we were picking a good guy to take the program over. So did most football followers. He turned out to be a jerk. So, that was a mistake.

I'm still hoping it will pay off for the big 2 sports. GM has been hamstrung until they were out of the woods, but has done admirably given he can't take a chance on a kid that isn't going to cut it academically and had to be extra careful to clean up the "scheduling situation." Thus, like I said Ethics are going to pay the bills for a while around here.

Do you have any articles that said Chizik was the "hottest" coordinator in college football? Or anyone -- besides CF posters -- who were blown away that we hired him? I'll answer for you: you don't, because there weren't any.

Actually, there were no shortage of articles calling him a hot coordinator. Took all of 30 seconds using that crazy Google thing.

-----------

Iowa State put forth its best recruiting pitch to Gene Chizik, and succeeded in hiring one of the nation's hottest young assistants as its next coach.

Texas' red-hot defensive coordinator, Gene Chizik, has been mentioned as a candidate for the vacant North Carolina job.

Enter Chizik, who in two seasons as a co-defensive coordinator at Texas rose to prominence as one of the nation's hottest assistant coaches.
"I knew a lot of schools would go after him," receiver Todd Blythe said. "He was a big get for us."

Now can we please get back to making fun of McCarney's daughter's arrogance? :jimlad:

The Jake was built in '95, not exactly a new facility. In the 90's we spent around $43 million (in 2008 dollars) in facility improvements. Since 2000, we have spent over $59 million (in 2008 dollars) in facilities improvements.

To break that down for you-
Facilities improvements before JP (includes Bergstrom, Hixson-Lied and improvements to Veenker and the soccer field, does not include the Ice Arena): $20,924,666.

Facilities improvements that are directly a result of JP (includes JT and the BB practice facility, does not include Hilton improvements): $38,438,260

So since JP arrived in fall of 2005, we have spent nearly as much on facility improvements as we did in the '90's.

*All figures in 2008 dollars.

Your numbers are way off in terms of what occurred before JP arrived. The Berstrom Indoor facility and the Hixson Lied Academic Center were over $20 million alone. Throw in Veenker, the Soccer and Softball Complex and the improvements to JTS (parking lots, video board and lights) andyou are over $25 million. In todays dollars that is anybody guess but you are off in your estimates.

My numbers are not off! They are taken straight from Cyclones.com and adjusted for inflation.

I'm sure that there are other facility improvements before Pollard that are not included, but there are also improvements after Pollard that I didn't include (like the Hilton improvements, remodeling of the Jake, and even more improvements to Veenker).

The new $10 million center – located on Beach Road near a number of residence halls – will provide services directed to any Iowa State student in need of academic counseling, tutoring, and testing

The new $9.6 million Steve and Debbie Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility opened for football practice in March 2004.

It really is quite irritating that I did my research and then you come along telling me I'm way off because you "think" the facilities cost more. Did you no look at my excel file that I attached?

Lights cost 500,000 and videoboard $1 million which would bring the pre-Pollard figure up to to around $22.5 million
Lights, camera, action: The Jack Trice renovation

Of course in all fairness, you have to include the $2.5 million video board that was added to Hilton in the post-Pollard figure. Total of $41 million. New scoreboard to debut at Hilton

Yeah, articles....after Pollard hired him and spun him to be the second coming of Knute Rockne. Like I said, no other interviews, no other offers. Doesn't sound like a hot candidate to me. Sounds like a second choice (which he was) that was overhyped.

You said no such articles existed, I provided links to 3 of the dozens found, including one published a month before he was hired here. It would be best to not let your personal feelings get in the way of facts.

ESPN, ESPNU, and other media outlets BEFORE Chiz was hired called him the next great coach. I think maui gave you plenty of sources to this subject. So use the facts and logic that are being presented to you and realize that you are wrong!

In some ways, the fanfare surrounding Pollard's hiring of Chizik reminds me of the fanfare surrounding the hiring of Donnie Duncan in the late 70s. Everybody thought Duncan, who was an assistant coach at Oklahoma, would be the ticket for ISU to beat Oklahoma.

HA!!!!

I say Duncan's hiring was a ploy to put ISU back down as one of the cellar dwellers in the conference with Oklahoma and the Big 8 commish involved in the conspiracy.

I think ISU was on the verge of accomplishing what Iowa has done under Fry and Ferentz. Duncan took a good program Earle Bruce had built and destroyed it in the matter four short years.

If Monty wants to blame ANY Athletic Director, it should be the AD who hired Duncan.

Keep going. Veenker Indoor Hitting Facility $150,0000. Lights for the soccer complex $150,000.
Stadium bleachers for softball $100,000. JTS parking lot expansion and renovation (you forget about parking in the mud before Bruce added the lots to help grow NCC) $2.5 miilion. Adds up to $25.4 million. Did not even mention Gymnastics Facility improvemnts or renovation of Basketball Offices or permanent seats in south end zone add another $400,000. That is close to $26 million not sure what it is in todays dollars.

I believe John Cooper was very interested in the job then, and the AD didn't give him the time of day. Wow. Just think about that one...

And as I said, if you count those, you have to count all the other little projects that have been happening since Pollard arrived. Such as the remodeling of the Jake, remodeling and improvements to Hilton, improvements to the softball and soccer fields, additional improvement to Veenker, improvements to the cross country course, electrical improvements to JT that are not included in the main project, I could go on.

What I did was provide a rough estimate based on the large projects since I don't have the figures for every improvement made. If you want to increase it another 4 million for the small projects, fine; but you have to increase it on the other side as well. Sense we don't have all those figures, I think my estimates are fair.

FYI- I included the Veenker heated bays in the pre-Pollard figures.
edit- I almost forgot the new sod last year
