Newsflash for the ignorant Clone fan - Iowa started just as many, if not more, underclassmen last year. And I agreed that LJ would have started for Iowa.

Just for the record, last fall:
ISU Starters: 7 fresh, 7 soph., 9 juniors, 6 seniors
Iowa Starters: 2 fresh, 13 soph, 4 juniors, 8 seniors

I would say the big number is 7 freshmen. There is a big difference between starting true freshmen and starting sophomores. Further, both of Iowa's freshman starters were redshirted while ISU had only one.

One is still a head coach and one is not (although he has tried multiple times). Those be the facts.

Dan McCarney coached for 12 years. Chizik has coached 2. Those are facts as well.

If Chizik is still a head coach in 10 years than we can talk

I will also ask why Chizik was able to score a very high profile head coaching job after what he displayed at ISU and Dan can't even land a head coaching job at such powerhouses as Northern Illinois, Army, etc.

PS...not defending Chizik...I agree he is slime.

No one else was willing to take the job (or, should I say, be Bobby Lowder's marionette)...

Really? I'm not in the camp that thinks that McCarney was the best coach ever here, but the guy went to bowl games 5 out of 6 years, winning two of them, and is the all-time leader in wins. Meanwhile, Chizik has 5 wins in his coaching career and the all-time worst record in ISU Football history. You tell me which was the worse gameday coach...

Question for you brite boys...How many bowl games did the coaches go to before danny mac? actually all the coaches before mccarney went to four bowl games and never won a single one!!!

That little book keeper was all over message boards trying to divide Cyclone fans, that little book keeper was in the stands during games with a bag over his head, that little book keeper kept fans from attending football games in late fall of 2006 (I was at one game and there had to be less than 20,000 in JT).

Seriously, it was time for McCarney to go. I fought it for a long time, but even I can now see why it was necessary. It was time for a change, the majority of the fans thought it, JP thought it- let it rest.

You cannot tell me this team doesnt have talent. Are only problem last year was the fact that our talented players were mostly freshman or sophmores so when the game came down to crunch time we were too inexperienced to pull out the close victory. I mean if we pull out the overtime victory over UNLV, we hold Kansas from making a 30 point comeback, and score on the final play versus Colorado all of a sudden last year seems like a solid year considering how young the team was

Anyway, assuming all of our younger guys have been workin hard this offseason and rhoads fixin up our defense, I think its reasonable to think about a bowl game this year

Are you begging for Gene Smith to come back? Granted he was a good AD but what about BVDV? Look at the facilities, fan support, budget increases, new events (Cy's House of Trivia, Tailgate Tour, etc.) that Pollard has put in place. How can you still complain?

Something you guys are forgetting about the whole "game day coach" is that when ISU did good under Mac he wasn't calling the plays. We had an O-Coordinator that knew what he was doing. When we didn't have a good O-Coordinator, things fell apart.

While I appreciated Dmacs passion and loyalty, I was so sick of pi$$ing away games. A few years back he goes conservative and we lose the Big 12 North, 3rd and 13 and he runs up the middle. 3rd and two and he runs wide with a back so slow that they could call him for delay of game. Playing for field goals late just to miss them when we had been moving the ball all day. He wasn't innovative. Their defences knew how to defend us because he was so easy to read. Senneca Wallace gave him another few years for sure.

Do I miss Dan? NO. It was time for him to go and "Play not to lose" somewhere else. (As a head coach.)

I would rather lose by going for it, riding the leading edge of disaster, in a flame of glory than play not to lose and end up doing just that.

I agree, SJ hasn't really proven anything. He's got incredible talent though.
