49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I firmly believe that Purdy would have won the MVP if he didn’t play for the Niners. If he had put up the same numbers in Lions’ uniform, he would’ve been the MVP not undeserving Jackson.
Brock had the chance to be mvp but he threw 4 picks against the ravens on Christmas. Fair or unfair, he lost the mvp that day.

You got an NFL forum and a Chiefs sub forum. So it probably is more appropriate in there. This is the Brock Purdy thread.
I’ve stayed out of the chiefs thread since I was on Team Purdy. Why do the chiefs fans have to tell us we are wrong in the Purdy thread? Tell the ones in the chiefs thread they are wrong.

I am going to post a question at JT Sullivan's QB School site, asking where BP can improve, if he hasn't reached his ceiling.
Huge mental part of the game. Getting blocking assignments changed, audiblimg more. He does well but just plain experience will help.

One game should not determine the MVP race. The media wanted anyone but Purdy. So past MVP never had a bad game? How about Jackson against the Steelers and Browns? If it was Jackson who was leading the league in all important QB stats but had one bad game against the Niners, then do you think Purdy would have won the MVP with Jackson’s numbers?

Chiefs fans are the worst, my wife's family is from KC so I've spent a decent amount of time there over the last 20 years.

Like it or not that was a very high profile game with the two leading MVP candidates going at it late in the season. Early stumbles are easier to erase from people's memory by good play, do it late in the season and people will still remember it 2 weeks later when the voting happens.

If the opposite happened and Jackson bombed that game I think everyone here would be totally fine with his MVP stock falling.

Jackson was not having MVP season. He should had been just another QB. If Purdy had played bad game on Christmas day against Tampa Bay not Baltimore, do you think Baker Mayfield would had come out as the leading MVP candidate?

His MVP trophy says otherwise I guess, I think you're stuck thinking that the MVP is a stats award, and it's just not. Brock will very likely always have better passing stats than Jackson, because Jackson isn't as good of a passer as a lot of QBs, but that doesn't mean he's a worse QB.

If Baker was top 3 in MVP odds and they played the 49ers on Christmas while Brock threw 4 picks, yeah, I'd say he'd jump into the lead. I know you don't like Jackson, but he was very obviously in the hunt for MVP at the time whether you like it or not.

The consolation I suppose is that Jackson will probably never win a Super Bowl. I think being a QB that's good at passing and running works over the course of a regular season to win MVP, but isn't as good as just being a great passer to win one Championship game or Super Bowl.

Jackson well deserved his first MVP but he didn’t deserve it this year It was a product of the media campaign “anyone but Purdy”.

That's just how you choose to view it, I saw media people being very complementary to Purdy all year as well.

What did Jackson do in 2019 that made you feel like he deserved it but not this year?

We shall see. I think Brock is good too but he needs to keep getting better. Can't let this opportunity go to waste while he still has the window with this teams roster.
Did Brock run over your wife and steal your dog? JFC, did you watch the game. Under constant pressure and receivers were blanketed when he had time.

for starters his Quarterback Rating and QBR were MUCH better in 2019 than this year.

Quarterback Rating in 2019 was 113 vs 102 this year
-1) Purdy was 113 this year
- 2) Dak was 2nd at 105.

QBR in 2019 was league leading at 83 vs 64 this year.
-1) Purdy was 72 this year
-2) Dak was 72 this year
-3) Josh Allen was 69 this year

threw for 36 TDs in 2019 vs 24 this year.

Rushing he rushed for 1200 yards in 2019 vs 821 this year

I'm not necessarily saying Purdy deserved it, but Lamar's numbers were not all that great. He didn't become MVP favorite until that Christmas Day game vs the Niners and that's why this award is just a recency biased award.

More rushing yard (1200+) and 36 TD passes to only 6 interceptions. If you didn’t see the constant slandering and discrediting of Purdy by the media, then I don’t know what to tell you. The narrative from the national media throughout this season was “any QB can do what Purdy is doing in Niners uniform “.

The mental part always takes the longest in almost any trade/profession and can only be gained through live experience.

In terms of gross motor skills I don't think Brock has much he can really gain (he's not going to gain 50 lbs of muscle, get 4" taller, shave .3 off his 40 time, etc). I think refinement to his technique and then the live in game mental skills are where he can grow.

I don't disagree that his 2019 season was better than his 2023 season, but if we're just doing stats then Brock had the highest QBR this year, but he didn't throw the most touchdowns, or for the most yards, or the fewest interceptions, so then how could he be the MVP?
