49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Gross. That is one huge list of mediocrity minus Burrow.
Burrow and Purdy are the best chances to be back. I would not call Purdy mediocre. His season and stats and even how well he has played in the playoffs do not suggest that. Those 2 have the best chance to be back. Others on the list have some sub par guys in there. No doubt about it. Goff has a little chance. But the two I said have the best chance.

As one of the commentators said, one injury away from MAYBE back to back SBs in first two years. Trajectory is great.....but, to be fair, doesn't take much for a roster to lose parts and even tougher to get back!

We shall see. I think Brock is good too but he needs to keep getting better. Can't let this opportunity go to waste while he still has the window with this teams roster.

Yes but I think he WILL GET BETTER. People forget he is really a 1.5 year player. Media and fans talk about him like he's a 10 year veteran. With Drew Brees he was good but nowhere near the 5,000 yard plus guy until much later. Living here in San Diego I saw a lot of his early career. You could see good but you would not predict 5,000 yards +. Remember he is only a sliver more experienced than CJ Stroud. 1.0 year player for CJ and 1.5 for Purdy.

Yes I agree on the roster. The best chance is next year. It's unfortunate. They had a chance to win. Even overtime. If you told me overtime against Mahomes and the Chiefs with a chance to win I would take. Of course that's dangerous. But you would be excited about that rather than blown out.

I think the guy he's compared to the most is Brees. I see a lot of young Brees like qualities. I really do think Burrow and Purdy have the chance to be back and probably will be. Just my opinion.

I've been watching Brock for the past 6 years. Admittedly, I didn't think he would ever be this good. I hope he doesn't plateau though. Physically I'm not sure he can get much better to compete with the special attributes of Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc. the NFL is fickle and a hard place to win.

I want Purdy to win the Super Bowl with another team. He will never get the credit he deserves if he plays for the Niners. Some idiots are saying Purdy is playing in an all star team. If he wins, no credit. If he loses, he will be blamed for loss.

I disagree because, imho, I don't give a damn about opinions from everyday Joes (which means, my opinion doesn't mean a lot to myself, either).

Just do what you can do, Brock, and do it to the best of your ability. Historical perspective will come after you have retired and are enjoying your NFL retirement. Today, you are in your second professional year, the future is yours to command.

I am going to post a question at JT Sullivan's QB School site, asking where BP can improve, if he hasn't reached his ceiling.

Physically Brees was not that either. He got mentally better. Better at processing, reads and progressions, timing and anticipation, get the ball out quick, make the right decision, excellent mechanics and accuracy. All those were good for Brees but got even BETTER.

The best years for Brees were not 22 - 32. They really were 33 - 42 or so. Maybe some one off exceptions. I didn't look them all up. But going off memory his huge 5,000 + yards seasons with mega touchdowns were BEYOND his 30's. His processing, timing, anticipation, accuracy got BETTER as he had more experience.

Usually the biggest jump up is year 3 for a QB. So that's next year. Honestly I was surprised he was this good this soon (Purdy). No question he was better than rookie year too. No reason he can't be better yet. I think he can.

Ya, I like your enthusiasm but I think we should pump the breaks on the Brees comparisons. He's only 1.5 years in like you said. I think he has some really ridiculous pressure being put on him unjustly from both sides of the coin right now. The nay sayers are all over him and his fans are putting huge expectations on him. Hopefully he and Shanahan stay together for a while. I think they're the right combination.

He would have had 4,500 + and say 34 TD's this year. Had they played him the last game. He rested because they had the #1 seed wrapped up. Looks fantastic for a 2nd year player. To 11 interceptions. Nothing wrong with that and it would be ahead of Brees at that stage in his career.

I firmly believe that Purdy would have won the MVP if he didn’t play for the Niners. If he had put up the same numbers in Lions’ uniform, he would’ve been the MVP not undeserving Jackson.

There are a lot of doubts and double standards around him. I personally think very unfairly so. But he could have won it this year. It was the Ravens game that tanked him. Gave the doubters a reason to go against him. Which they already wanted and were looking for. Because of their biases. But the 4 interceptions on Christmas was too much to overcome. Many were tipped passes and the Ravens defense is great. Never less the blame was put on Brock. Rather than full body of work it became about 1 game on Christmas. The narrative they were looking for.

I hope for the best for him but like I said. Way too much pressure.

Pretty big post game compliments from KC DC Spagnuolo, pertaining to Brock.
Nutshell: "Brees-like," + more.
Whatever...grateful for what we Brock/ISU fans were UNEXPECTEDLY given.
