49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Yeah, the SF coaches screwed up by going that defensive scheme of trying not to lose. This discussion started from me saying Purdy out performed Mahomes since he was under constant pressure at the end and Mahomes went against a D that was basically giving up short and medium passes whether that was due to injures or whatever reason, it was the wrong decision. I stand by my statement that Purdy out performed Mahomes.
By some metrics, yes, By others, no.

I personally do not understand ISU fans that are Chiefs fans rooting against Purdy. You’d won 2 already. Just getting greedy now. People all over X are bagging on Purdy. Guy is being held to an impossible standard. I guess to each their own, but I can’t imagine being a bigger fan of your pro team than ISU. Tired of Kermit and I hope they get beat next year.
I doubt many here were rooting against Purdy. I certainly wasn't. Doesn't mean I don't want the Chiefs to win. This, you've already got 2, quit being greedy is dumb. I want my team to got 20-0 every year regardless of where the guy on the other sideline went to college.

I don't understand the thinking that you would root for a player over your favorite NFL team. Once they leave ISU they aren't playing for ISU anymore.

I'm a fairweather 49ers fan as long as he is their QB.

This. I've been a Vikings fan as long as I've been a Cyclone fan. If I had to pick between the Vikings and a Brock Purdy helmed team in the Superbowl, I'm rooting for Minnesota every single time, regardless of circumstances. That's no slight against Brock, but my fandom goes pretty deep. That doesn't just get switched off when a former cyclone player is playing for the opponent.

Good news is you'll probably never have to make that decision.

I understand what you are saying, but it's more complicated than that.

I have a favorite NFL team, as well as NBA team, etc. The difference for me is that I didn't grow up in any of these pro cities or even close to them. Don't get me wrong, before Iowa State I lived and died with the Rams and Celtics. That's what was on TV. Atlanta Braves is another, my favorite MLB team.

I was born in '71, so my favorite pro teams are the Rams, Celtics, and Braves. After going to Iowa State, I started to kind of lose steam over worrying about pro athletes in LA or Boston.

Now I want ISU players to do well. I'm WAY less die hard pro fan than I am PRO ISU fan. To others this may differ and there is nothing wrong with that.

Totally agree. A packers fan and I cheered for Brock over the packers because I’m ISU first and Brock winning would have been HUGE for ISU.
Surprised by this. I'm a big packers fan and I cheered for Packers 1st, Purdy 2nd. My NFL team is GB, not decided by a college QB. I was happy for Brock, but disappointed bc GB had that game won. But, sucks seeing Brock lose in the SB when he played pretty well and didn't do anything to lose them the game. ST miscues and poor OL blocking was the problem.

Exactly. So if, by chany, that scenario ever presented itself, there would be no question where my rooting interest would be.

Kicker missed a PAT. Mccaffrey had a fumble. Special teams muffed punt. Just terrible to see. I thought Brock played well enough to win
It was as simple as blocking Chris Jones on the last play. Sneed fell down leaving Aiyuk WIDE open. Jennings was open too, but Brock had to stare at a brute force of Jones getting no time to throw.

Guys everyone is a different level of fan for their teams. I understand people cheering for their team over Brock and people cheering for Brock over their team. It's not a big deal either way.
Also some people are just weird about sports in general. I saw a video today of a grown ass man crying in his living room as the Chiefs won this year, like bro, this same exact thing literally just happened last year.

Well, it was your team's fault Brock didn't win the SB. The curse of Kirk Cousins lives on.

Exactly this.

And I would take it a couple steps further...

1 - I'm a hardcore Packers and Eagles fan. I've been told countless times on here I can't really be a fan because I have 2 favorite NFL teams. Sorry, I've also found more than one woman hot in my life. How I got to become fans are different stories and I don't give a **** if it works for others to like 2 teams the same.

2 - Being a hardcore Packers fan, I was told I couldn't be a fan of them because I was rooting for Brock and the 49ers this year over the Packers. My rationale is this - A) I know Brock and have a connection, B) the Packers have been around and will be around a lot longer than Purdy, and C) Brock is the leader of the 49ers, not just a Safety, CB, LB, or something else, and so many people doubt his abilities. Those allegiances won out this year and will as long as he's the starting QB.

3 - I also think the position a player plays can have a big factor. Brock is the leader of the 49ers and a SB win for a QB is a measuring stick, other positions not quite so much unless you're a CMC, Kelce, etc. Even with several people I know playing for the Jets this year, I would have rooted for my favorites teams over them - not because I like those guys any less or am any less proud of them, but because SB wins aren't quite the same level of legacy defining for non-QBs.

And furthermore, Brock's story is one of the best there has been in sports during my lifetime. While it's already stuff of legends, a SB win in his second season when so many people still doubt him would have been legendary x2.

I’m a fan of both teams. If the Iowa State Cyclones were playing the Chiefs then I’d root for the Clones. However it was Chiefs 49ers so I rooted for them. I seriously don’t understand the people that thing I should root against a team I’ve been cheering for for 25 years.

Not going to lie, that's kinda silly. The experience 4 years ago was completely different. Not grown man crying type stuff, but certainly over the moon excited. Losing the next year sucked. Last year was awesome after hearing all year how the team made a mistake trading Tyreek. This year was more relief than anything. They've all been pretty intense games, but still.

I’ve been a packers fan since the 80s. I place whatever is best for ISU first. I want to see a conference championship. I believe Brock winning the SB is huge in that it’s great recognition for recruiting and probably bumps up his next contract. Then consider Brock’s love for ISU and I see a nice NIL source for ISU.

I took that extremely hard last night and today.

* CMC fumble = minus 3 points at least on a FG.
* Punt hits a guys foot = 7 points gifted to KC. Unbelievable.
* Missed extra point = 1 point.

We left at least 11 points out on the field on dumb fluke stuff. Unreal. In a close, very hard fought Super Bowl. Definitely had chances to win. Crazy Shanahan went away from running in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Keep running CMC and maybe we win. In OT they ran and moved down the field. Finished with a FG. But moved it. The errors I mentioned were deadly.

Honestly didn't think Brock played terrible. Wasn't his best but definitely wasn't his worst game either. He didn't choke. It's not on him IMO. A multitude of other things. Start with the errors I mentioned. Just awful. Giving Mahomes too much time at the end was awful too. I knew that wouldn't work out. Our front 7 was being held and tackled all game long. There are even videos of it. Like literally tackle and bring guys to the ground when they are pass rushing. The NFL is very favorable to the Chiefs and Mahomes on calls. Blatantly so I'd say. Still had a chance to win. The 3 I mentioned were deadly.

:puke:
Wasn't Bosa just literally bear hugged and tossed to ground...no call. Mind boggling and that was a TD play.
