49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I said in the other thread teams don't every play a perfect game. Things the Niners would like to have back:
1. Muffed punt. Biggest mistake of the game.
2. Not running CMC in the 3rd much. Mind boggling.
3. Soft coverage late. Its a losing strategy.
4. OL just not being able to block Jones. Granted, he's elite but the OL was exposed tonight.
110% on your #3.

Niners coaches lost that game. There were some mistakes by the players that were big but they still had that game in the bag.
Agree that the coaches were out coached, but think there were multiple miscues that cost them. Think the worst was that false start in overtime by the tight end replacing Kittle on their drive, limiting options for the niners to get first down/touchdown, instead settling for field goal. Mahomes knew victory was in sight at that point.

Soft day at work. Read "everything" pertaining to BP.
Have to say, via the net (minus videos), very few "experts" knocked his play.
Shanahan however...OUCH. Got freakin' roasted.
Ps. CMC's post game interview...
Damn painful to watch. All but blamed himself for the loss.
Sucks, to see him in that mode, after all he's done

Not true. Niners talents are overinflated by the haters who want to discredit Purdy. Did you know that Lions, Dolphins, Eagles, and Cowboys have equal or better talents than Niners with better OL? Instead of buying into these false narratives, look at the numbers. These teams have better wide receiver tandem than Niners. Niners have better TE but Kittle only had about 100 more yards than LaPorta. RB tandem of Gibbs and Montgomery had 500 more yard and Mostert and Archane had 400 more yards than McCaffrey. Aiyuk and Deebo are good but they are not incredible like people like you portray to be. Aiyuk never had first 1000 yard season until Purdy became the starting QB. Brown/Smith, Hill/Waddle, St Brown/Reynolds, and Lamb/Cooks had more yard than Aiyuk/Deebo. I am tired of people like Nick Wright and Joy Taylor spreading this false narrative of "Niners have incredible talents". All good teams have good weapons around QB not just Purdy.
Agree to disagree

Purdy had more time in the pocket to pick a receiver and make a throw than Mahomes did for the first quarter. The 49ers really came after Mahomes, keeping him in the pocket and not allowing him to get outside.
The 2nd half that changed, Purdy started getting pressure from Jones and the Chiefs started to blitz him, forcing him to get rid of the ball quicker than he would have wanted. Mahomes went the other way, the line did a better job allowing him more time, and the two runs he had, were set your foot, nothing there and take off right up the middle. Both times they caught SF in a man coverage, so their backs were turned as he broke containment and sprinted up the field. That 4th down run my Mahomes was textbook, they motioned right to left, Mahomes sprints to his right, had Kelsey in front of him and wide to pass too if he needed it, the LB goes with Kelsey and Mahomes flew up into the open gap for 7 easy yards on a 4th and 1. Just a great play call by the Chiefs.
The KC line started protecting Mahomes because they decided "we aren't going to win this way" so they just took their chances holding if they were getting beat. Once again, not a single holding call against KC O-line but there were multiple blatant ones that weren't anywhere near borderline and should have been called, especially key ones on 3rd down that extended drives and resulted in points.

Frankly, I'm not sure what the referee was watching on some of them. Both outside rushers getting held and he can't see either one? Crazy.

Yeah, reminded me of Will McDonald, with blockers magically blocking the ends from behind without holding

You could say the same thing about the 9ers line, they were holding all day long. The refs let both side play the entire game, the 9ers were holding and grabbing Kelsey almost every pass, well past the cushion, but they never called it.
The Chiefs did not win this game because they were allowed to hold and the 49ers weren't.

Only one team had holding calls against them.

How did you see the Kelce holding? Serious question because my biggest complaint about the broadcast was you couldn’t see what was going on outside the box unless they showed a replay which they rarely showed more than just the small piece where the ball was thrown.

Hate to break it to you, but there are actually legal blocks that look like holds depending on what move the defender does. If the defender does the "rip" move, the offensive player's arm often end up around the defenders neck. This is not a hold.

If he pulls him to the ground from that position it is a hold.

They showed plenty of replays with the 9ers DB holding and grabbing Kelsey all game long. Like I said before the refs let both teams play, they were allowing a lot of holding and grabbing, no one had a problem with it until the 9ers lost, then they come out of the woodwork complaining about penalties that should have been called.

In the posts we’ve had, you are the only one complaining about the holding or penalties. I’ve never brought it up.

Others have brought it up as a reason that the Chiefs started playing better in the 2nd half, they started holding. SF lost, KC won, if they were playing prevent, that was a mistake on their part. What do you want KC to do, stop and tell the SF coaches that is a mistake? Shanahan should be getting grilled for his coaching blunders the entire game, but instead of doing that, they are going after Purdy and the Chiefs.

Yeah, the SF coaches screwed up by going that defensive scheme of trying not to lose. This discussion started from me saying Purdy out performed Mahomes since he was under constant pressure at the end and Mahomes went against a D that was basically giving up short and medium passes whether that was due to injures or whatever reason, it was the wrong decision. I stand by my statement that Purdy out performed Mahomes.

Greenlaw's injury definitely helped open the door for KC offensively. May have turned out different had he not gotten injured. Anyway, injuries, non calls, calls, turnovers, etc... all part of the game. All of those things sway the game, but it is what it is. Time to move on.

I personally do not understand ISU fans that are Chiefs fans rooting against Purdy. You’d won 2 already. Just getting greedy now. People all over X are bagging on Purdy. Guy is being held to an impossible standard. I guess to each their own, but I can’t imagine being a bigger fan of your pro team than ISU. Tired of Kermit and I hope they get beat next year.
