Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

He is at Butler.

Edit: And he isn't lighting the world on fire there either.
To be fair the program wasn't in the best place after LaVall Jordan and they are quite a bit better this year in year 2 under Matta. He's on track to have them back in the tournament next year.

Wonder how attendance is going to be for Iowa's next game. Could be some overlap with the Super Bowl. Bold choice on scheduling.

Most watched sporting event of the year or 2 hours of Payton Sandfort face?

Tough call.
Built in excuse for poor attendance, the B1G made us schedule this .

Agreed. I welcome the idea. Basketball in the state is so much better when both top programs are good. It’s not like we rely on in state recruits that we have to battle Iowa for. There’s really not much downside to Iowa having a competent coaching staff. And maybe Devries isn’t that, but it gives them hope. Which then turns to misery when they fail. Which is equally fun. Fan apathy isn’t fun for the fans or for their rivals.

I like their apathy

This thread has been crashing along for a while and I admit it got lost in the shuffle for me. I have a question, though -

From the last 2-3 pages it sounds like people believe Fran will be gone in short order. Have I missed something?
Pure speculation

Overton and Wright were really good gets this offseason.

If Deveries was hired this offseason I think there's a good chance Tucker would come with him for his last year. That would accelerate the rebuild. If goetz looked for more qualified candidates I'd be ok with it but Deveries is a really good fallback. I don't think there's another mid major coach that makes more sense.
Rebuilding in college basketball is no longer a thing. Look what TJ did his first year after what he took over.

EIU is not going to be able to get a more qualified coach to come there than the Drake coach. This is not football and there are few coaches with talent thinking "I always wanted to coach at EIU. Look at where everyone of the preceding coaches came from, none were D1 coaches, always successful coaches from the lower rank that tend to be in their 30's. They are hoping to catch a person that is young, will be successful and stay there for 20 years.
I agree I highly doubt Iowa could do better. If you're in Iowa and Iowa State shoes you almost always have to assume mid major or assistant and hope you get right guy

Are people scared of him? I think if you can win at Drake over an extended time which really I haven't seen happen for anyone outside of Devries, I think he can win at higher levels.

It’s always funny to see the ages of posters come through (no disrespect). Maury John will always be the class of Drake coaches and people can shout about Coach K being the biggest “what if” in ISU basketball history but man the coup Iowa State pulled off to get him from Drake… it would have been something to see what Maury could have done here.

It's coming. Former Lynx player Tamara Moore was hired a few years ago as the head MBB coach at Mesabi Range College in northern Minnesota.

Becky Hammon was strongly rumored for the Colorado State job a few years ago.

There were rumors/maybe more innuendo and suggestion than asserting this was actually in the cards, but I saw her name on here a few times before Pollard went ahead and brought TJ back.

Obviously things are great with TJ, but I would support a move like that. And not for any "symbolic" reasons. Hammon is a heck of a coach. If she's good enough for Pop, then she's good enough for me.
