Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Would Iowa finish 2nd in the MVC this year?
Absolutely not. That is not hyperbole. Drake is considerably better and Indiana State is probably even better than Drake. Bradley would also give iowa fits. They are actually a bit higher in the metrics.

It's very likely they would finish 3rd or 4th AT BEST. Again, not an exaggeration

Not savior but I would say almost perfect fit (Fran has never been a fit there). Also he’ll recruit some guys who can at least guard their own lunch.
We all thought the same about McDermott, and that didn't work out too well. You just never know, especially when it involves a successful coach who moves up to a P5 program where it's a whole different level of competition.

"Where was Josh Dix in the second half?"
"He was on the bench so Patrick could play."
"Well, the only time Patrick looked confident was when he made a couple layups."

Travis and Ross on kxno.

I see two more win chances remaining on their schedule. Not guaranteed wins, but there’s a chance they may win.

Their AD must thank CC every day for keeping the spotlight off of what truly has become the darkest point in Iowa basketball since Tom Davis was fired. They probably had worse teams, but at least then the fans were angry. They just don’t care anymore. To see this program fall apart and be left with this is just sad. And by sad, I really mean enjoyable.

But CC is a big part of why they don't care about mbb anymore. As long as they have some front-runner to hitch the bandwagon to, they are happy.

What will they do next year when Clark leaves and they are stuck with Fran and Friends? Iowa/Clark have had a really fun run but there are going to be a lot of teams licking their chops for a shot at Iowa next year... There is nothing in the pipeline that would make you think that Iowa that the men will be even better next year. It will be fun to watch it all unfold.

Wonder how attendance is going to be for Iowa's next game. Could be some overlap with the Super Bowl. Bold choice on scheduling.

Most watched sporting event of the year or 2 hours of Payton Sandfort face?

Tough call.

I think he will cut a deal with their AD to resign after this season and get a nice payout without the firing. Seems like him and Marge are both tired of IC and will gladly get out of basketball for a few years to watch their youngest play (Notre Dame?). He does seem checked out. Same with Pat.
Their youngest son is only a junior in HS, so he has another year before college, and I see no way that Fran walks away from a job paying him a couple million a year. Hell, he just became the winning coach in school history this season.

I'm sure he feels a bit indignant about it, as the winningest coach in program history, like you said, and coming off a run of tournament appearances. He probably feels like he should be allowed to have a rebuilding year. But man, attendance is pretty bad right now. It's not a good situation

Their youngest son also killed a dude this past Summer so it might be time for a change of scenery.

Why is everyone scared of Devries?

Agreed. I welcome the idea. Basketball in the state is so much better when both top programs are good. It’s not like we rely on in state recruits that we have to battle Iowa for. There’s really not much downside to Iowa having a competent coaching staff. And maybe Devries isn’t that, but it gives them hope. Which then turns to misery when they fail. Which is equally fun. Fan apathy isn’t fun for the fans or for their rivals.
